Adobe has announced an official partnership with Unity Technologies that will see the two firms cooperate to help developers target the Flash platform. Unity added a Flash export option to its popular engine over a year ago, and first showed it off at the Unite 11 conference in San Francisco in late September. Speaking to Gamasutra, Adobe's group product marketing manager for gaming solutions, Diana Helander, said the deal would help streamline Flash development in Unity. More >

Flash gaming portal Kongregate has tripled revenue from sales of virtual goods since its acquisition by US retailer GameStop last year. It follows a shift in focus towards microtransactions, with Kongregate doubling the number of virtual goods-based games on its website in the past year. Sales of virtual items now account for 80 per cent of the company's revenue; the site has 15.5 million users and hosts 50,000 games, most of which are free to play. More >

Epic Games has shown off the progress it has made running Unreal Engine in Flash, saying that its long-term goal is to run the Samaritan demo in Adobe's technology. Speaking during a GDC presentation, Epic Games VP Mark Rein showed off Dungeon Defenders running in full screen just as well as it does on PS3, according to Gamesindustry.biz.
