NPD has said Mass Effect 3 sales for March were 1.3 million units across all platforms, the firm told Joystiq. While it wouldn’t break any figures down for the site, Aaron Greenberg tweeted that Xbox 360 sales were 943,000 units for the period, out-selling the PS3 version four-to-one. Since NPD doesn’t take digital sales into account just yet, it’s worth noting digital sales across PC and PSN would make the core figure higher if included. NPD said in its March industry report sales for Mass Effect 3 were twice that of Mass Effect 2 during its debut.

NPD also told Joystiq Binary Domain moved 20,000 units during March.

In another note to Joystiq, NPD has told the site that eight out of the top 25 titles on the software chart in February belonged to 3DS, and it cited such “examples” as: Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, FIFA Soccer, Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, Resident Evil: Revelations, and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Joystiq notes the last two titles mentioned were February releases, while the rest are mainstays from previous releases. The NPD top 10 chart for February was devoid of any 3DS titles.

NPD has told Joystiq that Asura’s Wrath moved 36,000 copies in the US during its first week in the US, and EA’s Syndicate was only 2,000 copies short matching those figures with 34,000 copies sold during February. Both games launched on February 21 in the US, giving each eight days before sales were tallied.

NPD has said Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which landed in the four spot on the February charts in the US, sold a total of 330,000 across PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. EEDAR’s announced its hired Richard Ow as its vice president of sales and strategy, overseeing the interactive entertainment sector. Ow, who comes over to the analyst firm from NPD as product development director, said his new role was “a unique opportunity to apply my industry knowledge and expertise to a rapidly growing organization.”

NPD has announced it’s reached an agreement with Walmart, which will allow the firm to include the retail giant’s sales data in its monthly games industry report. Information from both physical and an online outlets will be included. The agreement also includes data from other offerings the chain sells, which NPD also tracks, such as toys, home items, apparel, etcetera. “This agreement is truly a game changer for NPD and for the industry,” said NPD president and COO Karyn Schoenbart. “With Walmart data, we will be able to provide our clients with world class information and solidify our leadership position as the premier source of market insight in our industries. NPD analyst Anita Frazier has told Eurogamer that Rayman Origins sold a little over 50,000 copies during the month of November in the US. While she wouldn’t reveal where it landed on the chart, she did tell the site that Sonic Generations hit 26 on the chart, and through she failed to provide uni sales for the title. For context, Super Mario 3D Land sold over 625,000, and while Frazier didn’t say where it landed on the full-chart, it wasn’t in the top 10 for the month. Rayman Origins was release in the US on November 15.

Ahead of the NPD’s release of US sales figures for November, analysts have picked the Xbox 360 as a clear favourite.

NPD has been doing a bit of math, and according to its figures for the 12 months ending October 31, the dance genre has grown 326% percent year-over-year. When compared to overall videogame sales, the later has only grown yoy by 3%. Last month, NPD noted that the dance category was up 135% when comparing October 2010 figures to the same period in 2011. Two titles which can help confirm the growth in the genre are Just Dance and Dance Central: the former is up 85% yoy in sales and the later passed the 2.5 million sales mark in August of this year. According to NPD, 8 out of every 10 players of dance games are female, the majority of which are teenagers or younger.
