Valve and Blizzard settle over use of DOTA

Blizzard and Valve have announced a mutual agreement over the use of DOTA. Valve will continue to use DOTA commercially, including DOTA 2, while Blizzard will preserve noncommercial use of DOTA for its community “with regard to player-created maps for Warcraft III and StarCraft II.” Blizzard’s DOTA game will from here on out be called Blizzard All-Stars.

Double Fine has released A Perfect Storm for Adventure, the first episode of its documentary series titled which gives you a look at the beginnings of its Kickstarter fundraiser. The firm has also opened up a PayPal account in case you missed out on donating to the Double Fine Adventure the first time out. Those who donate will receive access to the forums, code to download the game on Steam for PC or Mac as well as for Linux or Android. Latest developer video takes you “Behind the Wall” with Game of Thrones: The Game

Cyanide has released a new video for Game of Thrones: The Game, which is narrated by project director Thomas Veauclin and lead game designer Sylvain Sechi. The video explains how the game came to be developed, how it was influenced by the HBO series, and how the studio worked alongside author George R.R. Martin to ensure the game was “faithful to the universe he imagined.” The duo are speaking English, but with French accents, so if you can’t understand them very well, just read the subtitles. Rumor – GameStop to start selling refurbished MacBooks

GameStop may start offering MacBooks as part of its refurbished line of products, if shots taken of the company database by an anonymous GameStop employee are any indication. It wouldn’t be too far of a stretch as the firm already has refurbished iPods, iPads and iPhones in some of its stores. At press time, a representative for the chain could not be reached for comment by Kotaku.

The Secret World gameplay video shows PC Gamer running around Kingsmouth

PC Gamer’s Chris Thursten and Tom Senior got some hands-on time with The Secret World beta, and a 9 minute look into their time with it is posted below. The video shows the town of Kingsmouth, which is part of the MMO’s first beta test weekend going on now. Titled Kingsmouth Calling, players will play as members of the Templar faction where they will be sent Solomon Island where an ocean fog has drifted in and is killing the inhabitants. Other test weekend will have players trying out the Illuminati and Dragon factions. The Secret World MMO releases in June.

Activision has released screenshots for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection #2 as well as the behind-the-scenes preview video for the Face Off maps Aground and Erosion. The video, which was posted last week, was previously exclusive to IGN. Content Collection #2 launches on May 22 and also included Multiplayer/Survival Mode Maps, Special Ops Missions 1200 MS Points /$14.99. Premium Elite members can download the content on May 15. The two Face Off maps will be available on Xbox Live to Elite Premium members on May 15 as well and to everyone else on XBL May 16. All content will be available on PC and PS3 once the exclusivity period on 360 ends.

EA has announced a Double XP Multiplayer Weekend for Battlefield 3 which starts tomorrow, May 12 at 12.01AM PDT and ends on May 13 at 11.59PM PDT. Players can earn double XP in matches across all maps and modes and accrued across all ranked servers and matches. At the conclusion of each match, players total points for the round will be reflected in the end of round screen and classified as Additional Point.

Square has announced North American pre-order incentives for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. While supplies last, pre-order customers will acquire three augmented reality cards which unlock Dream Eaters and a 360° viewing stand. One wild AR card will randomly unlock one of the three rare Dream Eaters: Ursa Circus, Sudo Neku or Meowjesty. The second AR card unlocks R&R Seal Dream Eater, and the last AR card unlocks the 360° viewing stand. The game releases in North America on July 31.

Ghost Recon: Alpha trailer and screens released

Ubisoft has released a trailer for its movie short Ghost Recon: Alpha. It’s posted below along with a set of screenshots. The full film will be available to the public on Monday May 14 via Ubisoft’s YouTube channel. The film was shown earlier in the month via Lovefilm and on G4, and a DVD Blu-ray combo pack lands in stores on May 22 for $14.95 and as a standalone DVD for $7.95. A code to unlock and exclusive weapon in the Xbox 360 version of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is hidden in the film. Future Soldier launches on May 25 for PS3 and 360 and on June 12 for PC.

Warner has released some screenshots of Harley Quinn’s Revenge. The DLC contains over two hours of new single-player content and players can choose between playing as both Batman and Robin. Atari reported decrease in FY12 revenue of $51.3M, closes Eden Games

Atari has released its fiscal 2012 earnings report which noted a decrease in revenue of $51.3 million compared to $77.8 million year-over-year. However, the firm also reported a decrease in losses with $4.8 million reported compared to the $8 million in losses the year prior. Atari attributed its losses to money spent beefing up its mobile games division, where its games have been downloaded over 10 million times, and reaffirmed its commitment to the mobile space. The firm has also started restructuring its operations by shuttering Test Drive Unlimited 2 developer Eden Games. The studio laid of the majority of employees at the studio last year, and all remaining assets will be sold. Atari also noted the sale of its remaining stock in the French television channel GameOne for $7.6 million.

Cross-realm zones coming to Mists of Pandaria beta

Blizzard will introduce cross-realm zones into the Mists of Pandaria beta. This will allow players to meet up and group with others in under populated areas of the world such as low level zones or areas which have been out-leveled by higher-level players. Cross-realm will allow players to form a group with others from “within a select pool of realms” in order to quest while the social structures of players’ home realms will remain intact.
