Studios that enrol in the EA Partners scheme will not be signing away their right to publish games on Steam, the publisher has claimed.

A spokesperson for Electronic Arts clarified the situation after it was discovered that the puzzle game Warp – which had been published through the EA Partners initiative – is available to buy on both Origin and Valve’s rival platform.

“Making Warp available on Steam was a choice made by the developer, Trapdoor,” Electronic Arts told VG247.

“Our partners in EA Partners own their own IP and have the authority to determine where the game will be distributed,” the company added.

Last year EA removed its properties from Valve’s online platform due to disagreements over the Steam terms of service, particularly with regards to downloadable content policies.

Warp’s appearance on Steam “does not reflect a change in EA’s position on Steam’s terms of service”, the publisher added.
