Well, everyones opinion is going to be different. I think BF3 offers a lot more depth then most ofter OMP FPS. But in the end it is the same type of game. If you have enjoyed BF games in the past I would say jump in. You know what to expect and you like it. BF3 is a good BF game. I didn't like the BF3 beta either.
My problem with the beta is that I used to be a rush player, and the Metro map is a bad rush map. Metro alos didn't have much to show off in vehicle combat(a real staples in the BF games).
Now, when I play I play conquest, you get more points in an average round of conquest then an average round of rush. Your not going to run into a wall of camped snipers in conqst the way you do in rush(in rush there is onlyt one way for the attack to come from, so they camp it). Playing conquest really helped open things up for me in BF3.
I also suggest you play hardcore mode. Not because of some over inflated ego of mine, but because there are so many assists on normal mode that you sometimes feel like a fish in a barrel. They almost always know where you are. In hardcore mode you won't light up like a xmass tree on the entire enimies rader. You can be spoted, but you quickly disapear off of instead showing as a moving dot on the enemy radar/mini maps. Spoting mines is so easy and rampant on normal mode that using them is almost pointless. Where as hardcore mode, mines are very hard to see. Making placing them worth it again.
If your looking for a omp fps thrill, like past BF games, and don't own BF3 yet. I would run to the store and buy it.
