Diablo Animated Short Sets The Stage For Diablo III

Blizzard has teamed up with renowned animator Peter Chung to bring us a short film outlining some of the back-story of Diablo.

Chung is probably best known for directing much of Aeon Flux, as well as co-creating the characters and creating the opening sequence to Nickelodeon's Rugrats.

You can check out the animated short below, and you can pick up Diablo III next week on May 15. It's pretty surprising that we are able to write the previous sentence as a truthful statement of fact, but it's totally true. You can play Diablo III next week.

Oddly enough, this made the wait for D3 a bit more bearable.

So did The Book of Cain. If you're a fan of the Diablo series, you should definitely check it out. Bunch of great background on all the major cities, clans, demons, angels, and conflicts in Sanctuary and beyond.

Can't wait to play D3!

Peter Chung did the intro to Rugrats? Out of all the things that guy has done - he also directed Aeon Flux, Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, GameTap's ReVisioned: Tomb Raider series, Matriculated in the AniMatrix, and did the character designs for the anime Reign - you mention that? Oh well. Weird, but I learned something today!

I find it weird that, since Blizzard's in-house CG team is so acclaimed, they decided to hire an outsider to do this and do it in 2D. Cool though.
