Cape jazz legend Lou Colombo dies

SOUTH YARMOUTH — Trumpeter Lou Colombo, the heartbeat of jazz on Cape Cod for more than half a century, was killed late Saturday night in a car crash in Fort Myers, Fla.

Colombo, 84, turned onto a street in Fort Myers when his car was struck by an oncoming vehicle shortly before 9:30 p.m., according to the Florida State Highway Patrol.
