Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott

I'm not much for reading "how-to" books (they make me fall asleep), but this book was eye-opening (by realizing how neurotic we really are) and extremely funny, as well as instructional.I also have to include Roget's Thesaurus.  As a poet and an owner of Open Office (which has a crappy thesaurus), this has been invaluable.See More

The Craftonomicon

We've all got them. Those physically or electronically dog eared craft books. The ones we swear by and at, the ones we love and hate (often simultaneously). They’re our Grimoires. Our Blue books. Our Gramarye. But what are they? :-).Maybe this may be the place the new initiate may come, the place they may learn, not the secrets of our Craft, but the places others have gone before. The places we still go.OK. So maybe that’s a little Over The Top. Or maybe – maybe it isn’t. The idea is, you post…See More

A Fairies Tail.

A Fairies Tail.

Something very strange has happened in the Fairy Maternity Ward. After a difficult birth a baby is now in the world with of all things a long bushy tail. The Doctors are all baffled nothing like this has ever happened before. Calls were made to the Fairy University; Professors came to examine the baby and all were agreed that nothing like this had ever happened before not in all of the Fairy History. Both the Mother and the Father were examined nothing out of…

I wouldn't have known how you cared

when I was so sick, so scared

You just walked up to me, looked in my eyes

you saw how sick I was,  you heard my cries

You spoke kind words to me

that…

Wuthering Heights

I grew up with an aversion to 'classic' novels. I blame this mostly on being sent to catholic school, which sent me on a path of rebellion against all forms of authority that I've never really left (though as long as I'm in employment I'll be hiding this from my boss). When I was about 15 I spent a rainy lunchtime in an empty classroom with a couple of friends talking about books and movies, and one of the girls asked me if I'd ever read Wuthering Heights. I scoffed at her, of course,…
