Blue Moose Bar & Grill

The Blue Moose officially opened on Nov. 7, 2011.

Blue Moose, in the former Brick Oven building near S.W. 29th and Wanamaker, is an upscale bar and grill known for amazing food. From Mediterranean Shrimp Past and Free Range Rosemary Roasted Chicken to Baby Back Ribs and Jammin' Salmon, Blue Moose has an eclectic and sophisticated menu.

Bobo's Drive-In West

1630 S.W. Arvonia Place, Topeka

A Topeka tradition since 1948, Bobo's opened a new drive-in restaurant just north of West Ridge Mall on June 20, 2011.

Known for their steakburgers, onion rings and pie, Bobo's West is serving the same great food as the drive-in on S.W. 10th Ave.

The new place, which used to be home to Shake's Frozen Custard, seats about 36 in the dining room and there are about 12 spots for car service outside.



Boston Market

Cakes by Dino

5999 S.W. 22nd Park, Topeka

Dino Mazzanti, a certified pastry chef whose specialty is creating custom cakes for all occasions, opened Cakes by Dino at the end of 2011, in the space formerly occupied by Margie's Java Café just off Wanamaker behind Toys R Us.

“We do breakfast, lunch and proudly serve PT’s Coffee,” said Mazzanti, who discovered his cake decorating talent while in the service and went on to earn his certification as a pastry chef after studying in England. In the early 1990s Mazzanti ran Celini’s Restaurant in the Gem Building at S.W. 10th and Topeka Boulevard.



Cheeburger Cheeburger

2919 S.W. Wanamaker Road, Topeka

This '50s style diner most definitely is not brought to you by the letter "S." Cheeburger Cheeburger, which opened June 23, 2009, features "Cheeburgers" (what others might call a cheeseburger) topped with as many as 26 different toppings.
The Wanamaker location is the first Kansas franchise for the Fort Myers, Fla., chain. Cheeburger Cheeburger features beef fresh from a plant in Dodge City, topped with one of nine cheeses and then any combination of 26 toppings for no extra charge. Cheeburger also offers sandwiches, salads, milkshakes and malts.
“It’s not fast food,” owner Tom Overton told The Topeka Capital-Journal. “Everything is made to order.”
Hungry adults who can make a "pounder" disappear will get their picture taken and posted on a bulletin board inside the restaurant. Kids younger than 12 can take on the challenge with a half-pounder. (Updated 4.14.10)
