The 2012 Designers' Showhouse, a fundraising event for Child Care Aware of Northeast and North Central Kansas, will continue to be open for tours through May 13 at 3162 S.W. Shadow Lane in Topeka's Westboro neighborhood.
Karl von Zois (1756-1800) was a country gentleman and plant collector. He was an Austrian botanist who was commemorated by the naming of a special turfgrass from Southeast Asia called zoysia.
The Shawnee County Extension Master Gardeners will hold their fourth annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon May 5 - rain or shine - in the parking lot of the Extension office, 1740 S.W. Western.

The constant noise that has filled the rooms at 3162 S.W. Shadow Lane will be silenced today when the home debuts as the 32nd annual Designers' Showhouse.
I think it's spring, I think it's spring, I think it's spring. The calendar says it's spring and the weather says it's spring, but my mind is still waiting for that last frost, that last cold, north wind, that last freezing rain.
Cole Lanum says his style is "plain." His fiancee, Abby Cunningham, describes Lanum's style as "traditional" and the decor in the house they share "bachelor pad" before she moved in last summer.
Perhaps it was understandable.
Asparagus has been depicted as an offering in an Egyptian frieze dating to 3000 B.C. The Romans and Greeks cultivated it more than 2,000 years ago and ate it for its rich flavor and medicinal qualities.
