Self-Assignment Club

WELCOME!

Join the group, post a message or two, and don't use it as an excuse to not write. Writing, though, is a great excuse to have not joined. I haven't been all too active around this group area; really they're neglected by the masses, but feel free to make a thread and reply to the threads that have been made. If you've an urgent question feel free to send me a private message, or any of the workshop moderators; Vigorous Puppy, JKabol and Wickerkat, I know of at the moment. I'll edit in the others when I find them out.

Obviously things are going to be kicking off in the workshop come February, hell, maybe you're reading this and it's June already, but there a fair few of us folk about in here and so, in lieu of mumbling, welcome to The Cult, the workshop, and here's a message from Vigorous Puppy.

When Chuck first started supplying us with essays in early 2004, I renamed our original workshop section "Self-Assignment" as a convenient way of distinguishing in from the "Chuckshop".
But there's more to it than that... the name means something.
I learned from one of my best university writing professors to believe in self-assignment as a something imperative for the writer. It doesn't simply mean doing whatever you want as you create something on the fly. It means becoming the expert in what your own writing needs the most, and constructing assignments for yourself based on this discernment.
I'd be happy to throw in some more information along these lines and see if we can get people posting about their own self-assignment directives, and how they arrive at them, as a preliminary to the submitted work.

He has yet to oblige us with more information along these lines, but I've yet to ask him. I'll do that now and shall update when he finds time to get back to me. Adieu.
Keep rubbernecking,

Nice ways to kill people, or just ways to get away with it

Got any ideas? Cut the brakes? burn down the house, on accident? feed them finely ground up glass till they bleed to death? Come on, I need help with a story!

Whats the worst thing you've done to someone close to you?
