- As much as I was initially shocked at the harsh punishment, after reading the entire article, I agree with many others posting that the military has different rules and standards and ESPECIALLY the warnings he received prior to his dismissal. After that long in the Corps he should have known that there would be consequences and that you should probably just shut your mouth when you are told to do so. It is absolutely amazing to me how many people are getting in trouble lately for being complete idiots with public forums and the internet. Feel the way you want, but don't put it on Facebook if it has half a shot of getting you in trouble!

- It's not the 15 words that lost him his career - it's his inability to understand what his position demanded of him. We have civilian control of the military in this country. This is what keeps us free, and not under the thumb of a military junta. This means that the military cannot defy the elected political leadership, their role is to serve - period. They can think what they want to think, and they can vote for that leadership, but once the election is over and they have only one course, to serve. If they cannot do that, they must leave the service. These rules are well known, and nothing new. If this guy really loved his job, he'd have done what he needed to do to keep it, but he couldn't. FOX News will probably hire him, though.

- When Bush was President, people could and did say anything they liked about he man and his administration. But Obama is not just the President - he's teh Messiah. His ego is like a delicate flower, and needs to be completely protected from criticism of any kind.
Of course the Marine was fired. He's lucky King Barack didn't have him beheaded for blasphemy. - Reply to this comment

- You and I can say/post what we want about the president and we will not be imprisoned. That's what the 1st Amendment guarantees. It does not mean we can always say/post what's on our minds with any repercussions (Dixie Chicks, Hank Williams Jr, etc). I would be fired if I posted similar items about the CEO of my company, and he's not even a king or a messiah.
- This is NOT right on soooooo many levels!!!!

- I wonder if the liberal hacks, especially the media, bother to investigate whether or not soldiers posted diatribes against Bush. It's seems implausible that only an anti-Obama diatribe was made. Of course, as we all know, fairness in treatment isn't given out in these situations. Now had the president been a Repub and not a Dem, this wouldn't even be a story and the soldier would still be in the military.

- Why don't you investigate it then, and let us know what you find? Just because someone else does it and doesn't get caught, do you think that makes it right? For instance, I'm pretty sure this was not the first incident with the Secret Service and prostitutes, but they got caught on Obama's watch.
- There are different laws in the miltary. This guy got what he deserved. He was just trying to push the envelope because he wanted to make a statement, and guess what...he got burned. Very, very good. And he comes across as a religious extremest. He should keep that to himself as well.

- Good news for Gary Stein, he is now a civilian and can say whatever he likes. Bad news, well he is out of a job.

- So this is the way an American who puts his butt on the line to defend the right of free speech is treated when he exercises that right himself? Interesting.

- Except he openly criticized his boss, that will get you fired no matter what job, weather he is president or not. If a soldier of the British army said something about the Queen, you bet your ass he'd be discharged.
- Apparently you have never been in the military, if this marine didn't want to follow the oath they have said in the military for many years he shouldn't have gone in the military. Life for everyone have rules and the military have rules and if you don't follow those rules you will get bit in the azz. Maybe you need to study up on the military and then you wouldn't be spouting such ignorant drivel online.
- Sign up for the active military, reserves, ROTC or JROTC and they'll explain this to you right off the bat. Bad-mouthing your superiors (including the Commander in Chief) will not be tolerated. Don't like it? Don't sign up.
- Hey, criticizing the CEO of any company will get you in dutch. Common sense rules.
