(CBS News) The most expensive police auction in history is about to take place in Dubai. A selection of seized supercars is going on the block on Wednesday, including a Ferrari Enzo worth roughly $1.6 million. The Enzo, one of only 399 in the world, has been sitting in an outdoor parking lot collecting dust for the past year.

China's electric car industry lagging behind hopes

(AP) - China's leaders are finding it's a lot tougher to create a world-beating electric car industry than they hoped. In 2009, they announced bold plans to cash in on demand for clean vehicles by making China a global power in electric car manufacturing. They pledged billions of dollars for research and called for annual sales of 500,000 cars by 2015.

Today, Beijing is scaling back its ambitions, chastened by technological hurdles and lack of buyer interest.

Toyota developing mood-sensing tecnology

(CBS News) Toyota is working on a mood-sensing electronics system that will be able to determine the emotions of the driver. The new system is planned as a safety measure that will customize a vehicle's safety alert times based on the driver's mood. Cameras mounted inside the cabin will be able to interpret a driver's face and react accordingly.

New law mandates black boxes in all cars by 2015

(CBS News) A recently passed bill will require all cars to come equipped with "black boxes" that record vehicle data. These Event Data Recorders (EDR), similar to their airplane counterparts, will record data such as speed, brake force and electrical systems monitoring. (CBS News/AP) A San Diego court commissioner is denying that a scientist's physics paper had anything to do with her dismissing his $200 traffic ticket. CBSNews.com reported this week that Dmitri Krioukov of the University of California, San Diego, used an equation-filled paper on the physics of a car in motion to successfully appeal a ticket for failure to stop.

As it turns out, all those pages of post-grad mathematics weren't even necessary.
