There is no question Ron Reynolds has had a troubled life and several marriages. However, there is no question Rhonda Reynolds has also had a troubled life. There is no question the police investigation certainly had flaws. There is no question that Barbara Thompson believes her daughter was murdered. And with all due respect to Anne Rule who is an excellent author she, Anne Rule, also believes this was a homicide. I personally believe Ron Reynolds and his son Jonathan are the victims of a over zealous detective who has turned a suicide into a murder investigation. The detective is claiming the suicide was staged. I'm not buying it. I don't think Ron Rynolds heard the gun shot because it took place in a closet and was muffled by clothing and other items that would have helped absorb some of that sound; not eliminate the sound but lower the decibel. I'm not convienced that Ron Reynolds or his son did anything wrong. In fact, Mr. Reynolds reported the suicide. Rhonda was going to leave. How would he benefit from her death? It is amazing he reports her death, and his life and his son's life is turned upside down. I don't see any justice in this matter.

Ron and Jonathan are far from being the victims. Ron was lucky that the Sheriff was so gullible to believe Ron, and took the comment of suicide at face value. Had they handled the case correctly, even do a dna on who had sex with her, we may have a totally different outcome, and someone in prison today. Rhonda was leaving, bought a ticket, and was looking forward to going home and escape the nightmare she was in.

I totally agree vagrant . What about the gun residue ? There is no reported gun residue on either of Mr Reynolds or his son's hands but there is on her's . How the gun was laying that is really subjective there is no definitive way it should be laying. They say earlier that there was one person in the bed then his ex-wife is reported in the bed. I will agree it was a terrible investigation but the adds to the weakness of this case

they never tested the father, nor the son for gunshot residue
by economistman19 April 23, 2012 5:22 PM EDT
Dav0014 there is no gun residue on the men because they weren't tested. Another example of how this was a botched case.

that entire reynolds family is guilty by proxy,.. they all killed her! #1:There where 4 0thers in the house that night(3 sycho punks and a jilted x-wife,and LOVER!)...and none heard a shot in the silence of the night?...#2:If he loved her "right till the end"...why the divorce?...he then says, she was distraught and did not want to go on without him!...ha ha! what a bunch of crap!#3:What the hell was the x-wife doing there!...and she heard nothing either?#4:my best friend committed suicide a few years ago,had I known,I would not leave him alone for a minute, and much less with a gun handy!..he shot himself in the head!#5:people that shoot themselves do not try to muffle the sound of the gun with a pillow!
The son most likely raped her (with dads approval) and then killed her....why would she have sex with that idiot 'husband' when the x-wife and lover was in the next room!...that whole family is GUILTY!..they will pay someday!,...God WILL deal justice to all of these monsters!

The victim was either very naive or very stupid...why would you marry a guy with 5 kids at the age of 33......Ron's Family is extremelly rotten they are guilty as sin...your family are monsters....but i guess here it will not be any punishment.

They are guilty.......as sin.

justice is not beyond reach................keep it up Barb you are a fantastic woman...you are very special...strong....and your daughter is extremelly proud of you.

I have recently read In The Still of the Night by Ann Rule, with much interest in this case.I do admire Rondas' mom Barbara and her quest for justice for her dead daughter. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors however, and this house of horrors is no exception.Could Catherine Huttula,Rons ex, and mother of the boys, whom he was having an affair with, and a drug addict herself have had a role in the murder?I believe they made a pact with the devil, each covering up for the other, and we may never know the truth unless one of them breaks that pact.

I am from that area, and believe me, just another day with the police department. Court house is another joke. The area doesn't have a lot of serious crimes, and I don't think that they have proper training for serious crime scenes.
After watching the show, more than likely the son did it and the father is covering it up. He couldn't wait to get his sons away from there, and their mother stayed the next night probably to watch their son.

First, how utterly disgusting & unethical for a man who is 'counseling' a couple on marital problems to end up shacking up with, then shortly thereafter marrying(!), the woman he's 'counseling'! THAT says a LOT about Ron's integrity; namely, that he is totally lacking in that department.

Second, this guy is cheating on Ronda with his first wife. Again, ZERO integrity.

Third, he has his ex-wife sleeping IN HIS BED in the same house his wife died in just hours before -- AND he can't recall(?) whether that really happened or not?! Now the zero integrity ratchets up a few notches to total BS. HE IS LYING.

He seems like a complete scumbag to me, but that doesn't mean there's evidence of murder. The prosecutor made the right call in this case because the investigation was so bumbled that it would've been impossible to get a guilty verdict.

I know everyone makes mistakes, but the police should be ashamed of how they botched this. Because of them, this mom will never get justice or really know what happened, and IF these guys are innocent, they'll likely live the rest of their lives with this hanging over their heads. Very sad on all points. (But I still think father is a CREEP, whether he killed her or not, he doesn't need to be the head of an elementary school.)

AND WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT WRITTEN ON THE MIRROR AND WHAT DID IT MEAN? THERE WAS NEVER ANY MENTION OF WHOSE TELEPHONE NUMBER THAT WAS, WHO WROTE THE NOTE, ETC. ????

How would I vote on the Jury? Insufficient evidence to change the initial finding to homicide.

There they are again, "he showed no emotion" ergo, he shot her! Crap! What about this writer who's absolutely sure it's murder? It's a sure best seller, that's why and that means money. Why would anyone of them had to shoot her? She's moving out anyway. It was a troubled relationship, anything could have happened- suicide or murder. But as long as there is no strong evidence to prove otherwise- the initial finding sticks.

Having exposed your incredulous logic to us all we hope that someone like you never sits on jury other than for jaywalking. Lets follow your hollow logic. Ronda had her bags packed ready to move out the next morning, along with plane reservations already paid for, and then lo and behold she decides to shoot herself. To say that this logic is laughable would be an understatement. Ann Rule does not have to write another book for money she is practically closing in on 80 years old. She had to be shot so that her degenerate husband would not have to pay the mere $15.000 that she wanted back, and she probably had some material on him that he feared she would disclose. Police incompetence does not mean there is no strong evidence. Again. please refuse to serve on any jury that might require logic thought processes.

showing no emotion is the first clue that he is guilty, unless he is not human, how can you lose a wife and not feel anything? How can you not feel anything when a person you say you loved is dead? You are wrong.

#1 Barbara, I can see that you have fought a good fight and in my eyes you are a winner, but you can't stop. I think you need to sue the police dept. for botching up the crime scene. They need to be held accountable for their actions and now that this has the worlds attention, you have more power behind you. You also have Ann Rule.

#2 This crazy man and his sons are all nuts. On the night of the murder, not one of the 4 other people in that house heard a gun shot??? ********. Yes, I did swear and boy could I throw in more curse words to describe this case. I wonder what he was consoling her about. He was happy she was leaving and so was she. Obviously, she slept in the closet because she did not want to be with him. I now question a theory of did the son rape her and then shoot her? It would make perfect sense. He had some perverse attraction to her if he was watching her naked in the shower. And why would she have good-bye sex with her husband and then go sleep in a closet. Come on, did we all fall off the turnip truck yesterday?? Only a true idiot would believe that. YOUR SON IS A JUNKIE AND YOU ARE COVERING UP FOR HIS MURDER!!!!!! He plays the victim here by saying he can't find a job because of all the press and stress, if you were really trying to impress someone, why not start by whitening your teeth and putting on some clean non-tattered clothes. That is how we present ourselves when we want people to take us seriously. And isn't it funny how Ron can remember everything but being in bed with his ex-wife. There was no justice here. A jury found this case appropriate for trial and so did the coroner. Why would this State proscuiter throw it out. I will tell you why, because it would expose the botched police work and the state would have to pay out in a law suit. That is the only obvious reason I could see. And were lie dector tests done??? That would be interesting to know. If they are being truthful, then they would have nothing to be afraid of.
This story infuriates me, I want nothing more than to see justice for Ronda and her mom. I hope someone in law inforcement comes to their senses and lays the charges that need to be laid. BTW, Ann Rule, you rule. I can not wait to go out and read your books. You are a true person and I believe that your books will tell the real story. Good luck and god bless are the true, real and good people in this story.
