SOUND + SOUNDTRACK: MUSIC AND MOVIES IN THE MIX AT LOCAL FUNDRAISER

TriMedia Film Festival and SpokesBUZZ Fort Collins present second annual “Cinemusico” at New Belgium
Fort Collins, Colo., April 9, 2012 – Two local nonprofits will once again join forces to raise funds with a celebration of songs and cinema coordinated by SpokesBUZZ Fort Collins and the TriMedia Film Festival. “Cinemusico”, a collaborative benefit event featuring a screening of music-inspired independent short films and videos, will take place at New Belgium Brewery on Tuesday, May 8, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“Music and movies are such an inherent fit,” said Francie Glycenfer, co-executive director of the TriMedia Film Festival. “We are fortunate to live in a town full of talented bands, fans, and film lovers, and any opportunity to bring those groups together is inspirational for everyone involved. It just makes sense to work together.”
In fact, Glycenfer said that the creative synergy is such that the TriMedia Film Festival is announcing a programming block dedicated to music-related films and videos at this year’s festival in the fall.
Dani Grant, SpokesBUZZ Fort Collins board president, said that the ongoing collaboration with the TriMedia Film Festival is a no-brainer. “Together, we’re just strengthening an existing alliance by sharing the stories and strengths of these two nonprofits,” Grant said. “And we can increase the support for each, in one fun night.”
Grant concurs that the partnership is a natural one. “Music continues to evolve as a visual medium, and musicians who can connect with their audience on that level can make great strides in the industry,” Grant said. “Fans want to see their favorite bands as well as hear them, and music videos and films are a must for musicians.” And vice versa, Glycenfer added, as a soundtrack “sets the mood for any film, adding depth of emotion and a visceral connection for the viewer.”
New Belgium Brewing Company, a longtime supporter of local film and music, is sponsoring and hosting Cinemusico. Tickets to the event are $18 in advance, $20 at the door (if available – seating is limited), and include films, food and all related festivities. A small silent auction will also support the two nonprofit organizations.

Advance tickets to Cinemusico are available online here.

Actress in My Tehran For Sale Released

The TriMedia Film Festival sends its best wishes to Iranian actress Marzieh Vafamehr, who starred in the film My Tehran for Sale, which we were proud to exhibit in the 2010 festival. Vafamehr was released from jail on Monday, October 24, 2011, and her sentence reduced. Her “crime” was appearing in a film that, ironically, depicted the plight of young people and artists under an Iranian government that views them with suspicion. In August, she was sentenced to a year in prison and 90 lashes. According to Amnesty International’s Web site (http://www.amnesty.org/en/news/release-iranian-actress-highlights-plight-detained-filmmakers-2011-10-27), the jail sentence was reduced to 90 days, and the flogging sentence overturned.

We applaud the courage of Marzieh Vafamehr, filmmakers, and artists around the world to make art despite the obstacles of a country or society that cannot tolerate criticism, an opposing view, or even the simple truth.
