While it looks old, and has virtual joysticks, Max Payne is every bit the great game it was 11 years ago. I wish Rockstar had put more love into the port, but for costing me 1/25th of the original game, I'll cut them some budgetary slack.

Max Payne has one of gaming's grittiest, most noir-ish stories, and it's worth buying for that reason alone. The slow-motion gunplay is a big bonus.

Time hasn't dulled Max Payne's wit and explosive action by any appreciable amount - given how stable, fast and easy to play it is on the iPhone, there's no reason not to grab and enjoy (or replay) this classic shooter.

Max Payne Mobile is just the original Max Payne on your iOS system. A faithful adaptation of the original with slightly tricky controls.

Bullet Time is almost useless due to awkward controls.

Max Payne Mobile's repetitive gameplay and irksome controls definitely won't impress newcomers. But for gamers who enjoyed the original, this iOS edition is a strong enough port to bring back good memories.
