Collectible doll makers Tonner always put out some gorgeous stuff -- everything from Harry Potter to Twilight to DC/Marvel superheroines. So when this reporter visited them at this year's Toy Fair, she wondered aloud if  Hunger Games dolls might not be too far behind. Well, it's happened: the company recently announced that they have acquired the license to produce 16-17 inch dolls based on the hit movie.

No date has been set yet for release, but they've announced the characters they will be sculpting dolls for: Katniss Everdeen (as portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta Mellark (as portrayed by Josh Hutcherson) and Gale Hawthorne (as portrayed by Liam Hemsworth). Tonner also posted a sneek peek video on their site: Read More...

When you get right down to it, artist Janet Lee just can't seem to stop pushing the boundaries of what she's putting on the page and how she's putting it there. The Return of the Dapper Men and Emma artist continues to mix media and visual elements in ever more elaborate ways to tell stories both mundane and fantastic. And again, she's not stopping, carrying on this evolution of style in the upcoming Dapper Men sequel, Time of the Dapper Men as well as her illustrated alphabet project, The Wonderland Alphabet: Alice’s Adventures Through the ABC’s and What She Found There, both titles coming out from Archaia later this year.

Just before C2E2 2012, we caught up with Ms. Lee by e-mail to talk about her work and what she's got next for us to feast our eyes on.

MTV Geek: How did the Wolderland Alphabet come about?

Janet Lee: The year was 2009. There were a bunch of us in the Nashville arts community who had always wanted to illustrate a children’s book, so we came up with a gallery show called “Protopulp: Classic Books of the Future” as a sort of kick-in-the-pants to get us all to finish our books. Unfortunately, MY original book idea was Return of the Dapper Men, and I couldn’t show or sell pages from that until after Return was published. Silly me! Read More...

With their new FEARnet series, Hollistion, creator Adam Green and co-star/frequent collaborator Joe Lynch have created a sitcom about horror, if not a horror sitcom. Green, who directed the two Hatchet films along with the Sundance hit, Frozen and Lynch, who directed the upcoming Knights of Badassdom along with Wrong Turn 2 (you know, the good one with Henry Rollins), star as two wage slaves with horror filmmaking ambitions beset by the normal everyday evils of low-paying jobs, and the uphill battle to realize your dreams when everyone around you says you can't. Besides the day job, their characters, "Adam" and "Joe" have their own cable access horror show. Oh, and Adam's character gets advice from his imaginary friend, Oderus Urungus, lead of the horror-metal band GWAR, so there's that silver lining.

Lately there's been a lot of Shia LaBeouf  coverage in Geek circles, for reasons that do not include either Transformers or that Indiana Jones movie with the refrigerator. The reason: his surprise appearance at last weekend's C2E2, hawking copies of his self-made comics at Artist's Alley. A good portion of that coverage ranges from somewhat skeptical to outright MEAN, ripping apart his comics page-by-page and basically castigating him for ever having the "nerve" to want to make his own stuff.

Well I don't know of a better way to spread awareness and appreciation of our favorite artistic medium than to kick celebrities who dare enter that arena in the teeth, do you? Certainly, the sight of the (at least in Geek circles) controversial LaBeouf at a comic-con table is going to raise a few eyebrows. He's been attached to two movie franchises that have sparked a lot of heated fan debate, and worse...he's talking about expressing his deepest thoughts and feelings through comics! Horrors! "Leave our comics alone! Pick another form of personal self-expression, like, like ska or something! How dare this rich so-and-so pretend to be a real comic creator!" Read More...

In 1983, one of pop cultures greatest franchises was born. Four brothers, bonded together by their differences from the outside world, and led by their wise sensei, began bringing justice to the streets of NYC, the far reaches of outer space, and even through the infinite reach of time itself. They were, and are, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the very first drawing to spark their creation is about to hit the auction block! Drawn by Kevin Eastman and inked by Peter Laird, this artwork marks the very first time the Heroes in a Halfshell were realized on the page. We're as surprised as anyone that this page is going up for sale, and just as jealous that we won't be the ones buying it! Anybody have around $50,000 bucks we could borrow? We're totally good for it... Read More...

Welcome to our time-traveling, space-warping round up of all the news we could find about the world’s most popular Timelord, Doctor Who. And there’s a ton of news to get through because, remember: this article is bigger on the inside.

ITEM! Follow Friday Along, Pond
She may be off of Doctor Who in just five short episodes time, but Companion Karen Gillan is now on Twitter, and up over 74,000 followers in just a few days time. She’s also tweeting up a storm, with behind the scenes pics, and digs against KarenGillan1 (who is not her).

ITEM! David Tennant Back On The Tube
As we reported last week, the Tenth Doctor will be back on the Beeb Amer later this year, playing a French spy in the miniseries ‘The Spies of Warsaw.’ As a fan on Twitter correctly pointed out, I made no “Allons-y!” jokes in the entire article about the show, which is darn embarrassing. This definitely makes up for the oversight, right?

This past weekend in Chicago at C2E2 2012, we had the pleasure of chatting with Captain Jack Harkness himself, John Barrowman. The star of Torchwood and Doctor Who gamely showed up at ten in the morning on a Sunday, and still brought his boundless energy and enthusiasm out to talk about why he thinks there should be another series of Torchwood, where he thinks it should go… And why there will, in fact, be a follow-up to last year’s “Miracle Day” mini-series.

First up, we chatted about whether he would want to don Captain Jack’s coat again (though honestly, who wouldn’t?) We’ve heard that Eve Myles – who co-stars in the series as Gwen Cooper – would be interested, but here’s the official word from Barrowman:

Today, Rockstar Games announced their partnership with Marvel’s Custom Studios group to produce a three-part story tying into the first and second games in the series, along with providing details about the troubled New York cop’s likely troubled early life, subsequently leading up to the events in the May release of Max Payne 3.

The miniseries will initially be released digitally on the Rockstar Newswire site, starting with the first chapter, “After the Fall,” with the plan for the first and later stories to be collected in a limited print edition sometime down the line. Writers Dan Houser and Sam Lake of Remedy (Alan Wake) are providing the scripts here with Greg Horn (Marville) providing covers and Fernando Blanco on pencils/inks. Read More...

We’re well into the first act of Avengers vs. X-Men this week, with the release of AVENGERS VS X-MEN #2, of course, which finds the two teams finally (well, finally, after one issue of build-up) coming to blows. You’ve also got AVENGERS #25, which presents their side of things, and WOLVERINE AND X-MEN #9, which shows Wolverine having a long, dark night of the soul.

Don’t worry, though, there’s plenty more offerings from the House of Ideas, including AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #684 continuing the excellent “Ends of the Earth” storyline pitting Spidey against the Sinister Six; PUNISHER #10, continuing the also excellent Omega Effect crossover; and VENOM #16, which isn’t actually part of a crossover, but does find Flash Thompson reacting to joining the Secret Avengers. So yeah, lots of crossovers to read. Read More...

A while back, we presented you with a series of pictures featuring the cast of Jersey Shore as various superheroes. Little did we suspect then that our own Mike Sorrentino, also known as "The Situation," would be tapped to be a real-life hero in his own comic.

Convention producers/publishers Wizard World have just announced that they've entered a partnership with Sorrentino to star, alongside his  family, in a comic book. Sitch had this to say about the deal in a press release:

"MPS Entertainment and I are thrilled and excited about our new business relationship with Wizard World. I grew up reading comic books and now I get a chance to star in my own. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we are working on."

I had the good luck to score an interview with Jane Espenson while at WonderCon 2012. She has written for excellent shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Warehouse 13, Dollhouse, Once Upon a Time, and the list goes on! However, when we met up for the interview, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in the presence of the new webseries’, Husbands, cast as well, including Cheeks (Brad Bell), Sean Hemeon, and director Jeff Greenstein.

Jane Espenson is the producer of this webseries about a couple who wakes up one morning after visiting Las Vegas and finds themselves to be married. Usually, this can be fixed with a quick annulment or divorce, but since this couple is two men, and the gay community fought so hard to be allowed to get married, they decide to stick it out, rather than undermine all the hard work that went into allowing gay marriage by getting a divorce.

We cover the gamut by talking about Husbands, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Once Upon a Time, and other general topics. Read More...

Starting in July, the Ultimate Universe is about to crossover in a big way... And none of Marvel’s characters may survive the experience. Teaming up writers Brian Michael Bendis, Sam Humphries, and Brian Wood on Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Ultimate Comics Ultimates, and Ultimate Comics X-Men respectively, the event - titled “Divided We Fall” - introduces a new enemy in the Ultimate Universe that may change everything. "Regular Show" has quickly become one of our favorite animated series and manages to be yet another TV show related to park maintenance that can continually bring us laughs. Who knew that our public parks were such a comedy goldmine?! Jazwares did, that's who! In fact, they've apparently got the license to produce toys based on Regular Show's cast of oddball characters, starting with a leaked 3-D sculpt of the main character: Mordecai! Read More...

What if you could relive your whole life... And change it? It's a question that's been posed time and again, but never as uniquely as in writer/artist Peter Bagge's upcoming Dark Horse series Reset. The book - which hits stands on April 18th - shows what happens when failed stand-up comic Guy Krause gets a chance to sit in a Reset machine, re-starting his life at a key point in High School, and reliving the moments again, and again, and again. Much like Obi-Wan and Yoda giving advice to a young Luke Skywalker, elders were dishing it out left and right in last night's episode of Game of Thrones. From Lord Mormont with Jon Snow, to Maester Luwin with Bran, to Yoren with Arya, the teachers were giving the students a real what's what on life. It makes you think that when the show finally comes to an end, there's going to be a scene where Jon, Bran and Arya are looking off into the distance at something like this:

Yoren's already gone, so we just need two more deaths to make this moment possible.
