Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 IN THE RECORD BAG
Tr nchBy MARK JARNES
Special to The Japan Times
London-born DJ/producer Dave Twomey, aka Tr nch, is the founder of Japan's Mariana Dub Sessions series of parties. This week, The Japan Times takes a look through his record bag.
Golden Oldie: Bizarre Inc — "Playing With Knives" (Vinyl Solutions). Perfect example of the power of polarity in music, pairing an insanely uplifting piano power-chorus with a gnarly (if a bit dated) acid-rave vibe. New Classic: Professor Genius — "Time of the Assassins (Steve Moore Remix)" (L.I.E.S. Records). Great end-of-nighter and a favorite from 2011. Floor-Filler: Martyn — "Ghost People" (Brainfeeder). Straddling the line between dubstep and tech-house for serious effect. Essential listening. Must-Listen: John Daly — "Sea Level" (Further Records). Mind-blowing and epic. Another golden oldie in the making. For details about the Mariana Dub Sessions parties, visit www.mymtokyo.com, and www.marianadubsessions.podomatic.com.
