Mark Buckton covers things 'sumo' for the Japan Times. A former member of the British RAF decorated for his service 'between wars' in northern Iraq, his years of military service finally caught up with his body last year leading him to hang-up his mawashi after a brief venture into amateur sumo. A long time contributor to a wide range of the English language print media in Japan, Buckton is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the online, bilingual (soon to be trilingual) Sumo Fan Magazine. Heading a team of 17 from 9 nations, he is helping to take sumo to the world and has covered Japan's national sport for magazines and newspapers across Asia, the EU and North America.
