Member Benefit-National Instruments' LabVIEW

National Instruments' LabVIEW Student Install Option.  NI is offering IEEE student members and graduate student members in the U.S. and Canada a great deal on the purchase of LabVIEW for personal educational purposes. The LabVIEW Student Install Option is an exclusive offer for IEEE members in US and Canada to purchase LabVIEW student development software. This option includes the most popular LabVIEW modules and toolkits as well as software upgrades throughout undergraduate enrollment in higher education for the one time fee. With the exclusive student discounted offer, members can save up to 98 percent off of product prices compared to industry prices (savings exceeding US$10,000).

One software license per student is allowed for each year of active IEEE membership as a student member or graduate student member.  License terms require that software use is for personal educational purposes and not for any other purpose, including research, professional, commercial, or industrial. Students can obtain this software, including updates to the latest versions, as long as they are active IEEE student members or graduate student members.

Student volunteer news

IEEE Student Activities Committee
The IEEE MGA Student Activities Committee (SAC) recently held a face to face meeting in Houston, Texas.  All IEEE student members are represented by student activities volunteers in each of the ten geographic IEEE Regions by the Regional Student Activities Chair (RSAC) and the Regional Student Represenatative (RSR).  The RSRs team will be handling the promotion and maintence of the IEEE student facebook page, released recently. This will provide a forum for IEEE student members, who represent 25% of the total IEEE members.  Stay tuned for more news.

IEEE MGA SAC members

Members of the IEEE Student Activities Committee (SAC) include students, faculty, industry represenattives, liaisons to other IEEE boards and committees and MGA staff.  The committee's mission, goals and strategy are reviewed on a regular basis to align with the Member and Geographic Activities Board goals.  SAC works closely with the GOLD Committee to give students and young professional members a valuable member and volunteer experience.

IEEE Student Branch new student officer reporting
IEEE Student Branches must also report new student officers as elections are held. The Student Branch Counselor (faculty) should be reported at least annually.

If officers are not reported, the position will be listed as vacant until reporting of an eligible officer is received and confirmed.

Student Web section updates underway
IEEE is updating the Student Resources web pages for Student members and volunteers.

Suggestions are welcome on improvements to the Student Web experience, as well as ideas on recruiting and retaining Student members.

IEEE Student Branch online activity reporting
Student Branch activity reporting is available online. To be an active IEEE Student Branch, submit the online activity report once a year.  Organize activities and maintain good membership levels in your Student Branch.

This online Web form is simple and easy to use and replaced both the annual report of activities and the annual plan of activities.  Printed activity reports are no longer accepted.  Your Student Branch still has time.  Activity reports are due on or before 1 May or two months after your academic year ends (whichever is more convenient in your location).

SAMIEEE access for Student Branches
IEEE Student Branch Counselors (faculty) and Student Branch Chairs have access to SAMIEEE to maintain contact with the IEEE Student members.  SAMIEEE stands for Section/Student Branch access to members in IEEE.  Use this valuable tool to identify new members, send details about upcoming events and activities and stay engaged with your members.
