Syria violence 'unswayed' by UN peace deadline

With the deadline for Syrian forces to start their withdrawal from towns and cities now upon them, violence continues across the country and has spilled into neighbouring Turkey and Lebanon, casting doubts on the viability of the peace plan.

The UN has called on the Syrian government to cease all military actions against civilians immediately, and honour the agreement brokered by the international envoy, Kofi Annan.
