Video

Based out of RT's Washington DC Bureau, The Alyona Show is what you wish you could see on mainstream television. Alyona Minkovski offers a fresh perspective on US and world politics by covering bold and daring stories no one else dares to touch. It's an hour you'll never forget.

Scientists under attack

Video

Árpád Pusztai and Ignacio Chapela have two things in common: they are both distinguished scientists and their careers are now in ruins. Both issued warnings against the sale of genetically-modified food and both are now suffering the fate of those who criticize such work, which is often dominated by financial interests rather than the public good. Director Bertram Verhaag’s exposé paints a vivid picture of a scientific community in danger of losing its objectivity in the face of pressure from the commercial sector. Legislation allowing GM food to be developed and sold has been passed worldwide. As a consequence, huge corporations like Monsanto, whose pesticides cover a large proportion of the Unites States’ agricultural production, are being allowed to subject us to products whose effects have not been fully tested, or have even been found to be harmful. This documentary persuasively argues that the future of scientific freedom is under threat. Today, 95 per cent of research into genetic engineering is paid for by industry interests and objectivity, supposedly the very core of scientific discipline, is a likely casualty. So can we, the public, still trust our scientists?

History of the car bomb

Video

Forget about nuclear missiles, the most decisive weapon of the twentieth century has been the car bomb. After Iraq we now know you can defeat a Superpower, start a civil war, or just blow up your own Government with a trunk load of home-made explosives and a battered old car. Former-CIA agent Robert Baer investigates the hidden history of the car bomb in the 20th Century, from the little known but devastating car bomb attack on 1920’s Wall Street to the present use of car bombs in Iraq. Robert Baer was in Lebanon in 1983 when the US Embassy and marine barracks were hit by this most inconspicuous yet deadly weapon.  Robert Baer, who would be portrayed by George Clooney in the Oscar-winning movie “Syriana”, tells us about his personal experiences with this deadly weapon. From the Middle East to Oklahoma, Belfast and the streets of the City of London, the car bomb has shaped and influenced human conflict. Even today, the car bomb remains the number one terrorist threat across the world. Ex-CIA agent Bob Baer goes inside the notorious ‘car bomb factory’ of El Hinweh camp in South Lebanon. With shocking footage of car bomb attacks and penetrating interviews with car bombers, Baer reveals how the century of the car turned into the century of the car bomb. And how a dream of freedom turned into a nightmare.

Dying in abundance

Video

A handful of multinational companies have managed to control the “heart” of the food we put on our table everyday: The very seed and therefore, global agricultural production. Brokers in the developed world gamble with food, raising and lowering prices, playing with the fundamental right of millions of people to food. Meanwhile, almost a billion people on this planet are undernourished and 25,000 die of hunger each day. Can it be that the Earth can no longer feed its population? The evidence proves otherwise! The food crisis, as it will go down in history, is occurring at a time when the planet is producing more food than ever. “Dying in abundance” unfolds the absurdity before our eyes, the interconnections of a system in which, while there is enough food, it is so expensive that the poor cannot afford it.
