“Vtoraya Mama”

The Krasnodar public organisation "Vtoraya Mama" (Second Mother) started its activity when four young mothers decided to help abandoned children, who were staying in a hospital for contagious diseases. They began to collect clothes and toys for children, and later, in a few months, they built up a staff of nurses who could take 24-hour care of little ones in hospitals. Then the organization launched the “School for Foster Parents” project, which was the first one in the Krasnodar region. Its aim is training future foster parents and also supporting families who have already adopted children.

The project has currently been working for more than five years and it helps parents of ill children to collect money for medical treatment and children from orphanages to find a tutor. The organization also keeps a warehouse of secondhand clothes, which it accepts and distributes free to low income families. It’s the only such type of storage in Krasnodar.

The organization has the following major projects:

• "School for foster parents" – education and follow-through of foster families.
• Popularization of foster parenting, information support to foster families, video version of "School for foster families", the magazine “Vse nashi deti” (All our children)
• Helping children to find a family - the video project "Parents wanted!", the "Tree of children’s hopes" action.
• Project "The whole world in an envelope" - assisting in correspondence with children from orphanages
• Creation of a complete Internet database of children living in institutions in the Krasnodar region – the "3000 children’s lives" project.
• Fund-raising for seriously ill children at the request of families – the project "Another’s Story ".

What exactly are we doing in the project "Another’s Story"?

The organization’s workers meet with families, gather documents, describe children’s stories, talk to doctors, apply to medical clinics where children will be treated, get in touch with charity funds which support children with such diseases, distribute children’s stories in media and via the Internet.

Thus, a child has a chance to get support in the shortest possible time.

The finances are not given directly to a family in need. Requests for support always indicate the detail of the organization, but not the address of a child’s family. Therefore, it is always possible for the donor-financiers to check whether the funds were spent on the proper needs.

Until recently, it has been volunteer work, but the number of families asking us for some support is growing exponentially. Therefore, the organization’s personnel also have to do the administrative work on this project. When you donate money with a note “Donation for Another’s Story”, you give a chance to other families, who will come tomorrow to receive aid and support.
