The central-Russian city of Voronezh is located 445 km south of Moscow, on the river of the same name. There are only three bridges connecting the banks on which Voronezh stands, like Paris. Though, unlike the division in the French capital, the right bank in considered a little more expensive and prestigious than the left one.

Shipbuilding was launched in Voronezh in late 17th century, during the reign of Peter the Great. Two warships, 4 fireships, 23 galleys and 1300 strugs were built on the Voronezh River in 1696 and took part in the war with Turkey, later the construction of the regular Russian Navy started there.

It was in Voronezh where a supersonic passenger transport aircraft was put into serial production — it was the Soviet Tupolev Tu-144.

Voronezh is on the list of Russia's so-called "historic" cities with a rich past. For the heroic resistance of its defenders during the Great Patriotic War (WWII) it was granted the title of "City of Military Glory".
