Volgograd is one of the longest Russian cities – it spreads 90 km along the western bank of the Volga River. Called Hero-city in the Soviet era in recognition of its valiant fighting during the battle of Stalingrad in WWII, it houses mainly monuments dedicated to that conflict, such as the allegorical sculpture of Mother Russia or the Panorama Museum. The city’s population numbers one million citizens, mostly employed in 130 plants, factories and production units.
