The Russian capital is often called a state within a state. It is enormous, with its territory covering more than 1,000 square kilometers and its population exceeding 11 million people.
Moscow is a place full of contrasts: traffic jams and pollution co-exist with peaceful parks and old estates, luxury cars are parked alongside Soviet-era ramshackle vehicles, modern fancy skyscrapers stand cheek to cheek with old constructions of undetectable style. It is a city of the Kremlin and St. Basil’s Cathedral, which take you back to medieval times; a place where Lenin’s Mausoleum and monumental buildings of Stalin’s era serve as reminders of the controversial Soviet period the country went through. However, Moscow is also a vibrant city, bustling with energy and always striving to keep up with the times.
