She knew the score for women in music

In January, 1940, with little cash and plenty of cheek, violinist and conductor Ethel Stark took a group of 40 female musicians, most of them amateur, and built a symphony.

Ultra-marathon man was an inspiration to fellow runners

Up mountainsides, through deserts and the wildest of rugged terrain, there was little that could break the serenity or solitude of Micah True as he ran. Only, perhaps, the pounding beat of his heart or the rhythm of his feet as they hit the trail, mile after mile after mile.

Lives Lived

Jacob Wiecek

Born to a poor farming family in southern Poland, Jacob Wiecek grew up the oldest of four brothers. When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Jacob was too young to fight, yet old enough to feel compelled to do something. He talked about the difficulty and danger of taking food to former Polish troops and Jews who were hiding in the woods. Jewish women were provided with falsified papers so they could pass as Christians.
