Yanchep is a rapidly expanding coastal community, located 60 kilometres north of Perth. The extensions of the Mitchell Freeway to Burns Beach Road and Marmion Avenue through to Yanchep, as well as the ongoing housing development, have opened up the area for a variety of lifestyles.

Yanchep District High School, which is situated between the ocean and the Yanchep National Park, sits amongst native plants and trees and has a unique, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The school first opened in 1975 as a primary school and was reclassified to a district high school in 1981. A range of quality education experiences are provided for students aged 4 to 15 years to enable them to achieve their full potential. The school's motto is 'Youth Determined to Succeed'.

Students age 13 to 15 years complete the first three years of secondary education at Yanchep DHS and then continue their secondary studies at Mindarie Secondary College. Secondary students travel to Yanchep District High School from the surrounding areas of Woodridge, Two Rocks, Butler, Quinns Rock and Carabooda.

Over 80% of the school staff reside locally and strong links exist between the school, the community and the Yanchep National Park. This enables students to learn in a sound, caring environment and to become responsible and socially aware community members. A number of local organisations also provide support by sponsoring scholarships for students at the school.
