Release of Offer Markdown Information for the Catalogue API

Friday, October 1st, 2010

A great extra service has recently been added for our Publishers. We have now added the ability to display offer markdown information within the Catalogue API Product Service.

bizrate-markdown-information

Previously, we offered actual price information tagged as <price> within the <Offer> element. Now we additionally provide the original price and related markdown percentage to allow for display of markdown information for each offer. In the event an offer is not on sale, the response will return a markdown percentage of “0.00″.

Sample XML:

<price integral=”29999>£299.99</price>

<originalPrice integral=”39999>£399.99</originalPrice>

<markdownPercent integral=”25.00</markdownPercent>

The release of these new fields should not impact you unless you have developed a means of auto-generating your XML handling code based on the XML schema document for the Product Service.  If you have done this, you will need to update your schema.

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for snappy release notifications!  You will now be able to see an example result set returned with this new value through our Catalogue API Interactive Documentation.  In order to access this documentation, you will need to log in with your Catalogue API Key & Publisher ID.  Once you are in there, view the Product Service Resource section.  At the very bottom of this section, you will see a link “[ + ] show test form”.  This will allow you to test out queries, viewing sample XML.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.

Happy Bastille Day! Got a French site? Why Not Join Shopzilla’s French Affiliate Program

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

The 14th July, otherwise known as La Fête Nationale in France, is cause for great celebration in our neighbouring country as it symbolises the end of the Monarchy and the beginning of what is now called the First French Republic. It is a French national holiday so don’t count on being able to pop to the shops as pretty much everywhere closes down for the day. Instead, check out the Champs Elysées where you’ll find parades, fireworks and general flag waving.

Here at Shopzilla we take pride in the internationality of our company and its presence in European markets.Shopzilla’s UK Publisher Program has been around more than a year now and was followed by the release of our French (and German) affiliate programs not long afterwards.

The EU programs are based on a CPC model and offer website owners the opportunity to add shopping content to their site. Integrating this type of content is great for SEO as well as user experience and enables affiliates to monetise their site at the same time.

All Publishers are welcome to apply - check out our post on Is my website suitable for some guidelines.

The French market is gradually expanding and there’s great opportunity to include French shopping content on your site with Shopzilla’s sister site PrixMoinsCher.com which powers the FR Publisher Program.

Please have a look here if you’d like to sign up for Shopzilla’s French affiliate program “le programme d’affiliation”.

And we musn’t forget…Happy Bastille Day!

Shopzilla now has three affiliate programs to offer you here in Europe:

  • Le programme d’affiliation Publisher de Shopzilla - our French affiliate program was introduced in October 2009, and is open to all websites* targeted at francophone visitors that wish to integrate content-related advertising. The application is just as simple as the UK program’s. If you do not speak French but own a website(s) in French, please speak to one of the Publisher Team who will be happy to help you out.
  • Publisher Partnerprogramm - our German program which was also launched at the same time as the French version.  This also offers the same great shopping banners and assets as the other two. Again, for any help in applying please contact our team on publisher [at] shopzilla.com.

It is worth noting that we pay on a CPC based model for all three programs and offer Publishers the chance to seamlessly integrate shopping content. Adding Shopzilla content is a great SEO tool as it builds on your offers and allows Google to index all that extra content.

Have a look for yourself and celebrate being part of Europe by joining today.

*sites will need to be approved before being able to access Shopzilla affiliate content.

E-Marketing Conference 2010

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Last week saw two members of the UK Publisher Team head off to Paris to exhibit at the E-Marketing Conference 2010.

Almost 200 exhibitors and 250 attendees walked the halls of the conference to share best practices, experiences and new developments in Digital Marketing.

Yohan, our French national here on the team and Emma, who helps Yohan look after the French market, mingled with all their fellow affiliates from across the channel, representing Shopzilla in stand number 152.  They got to meet some really interesting people (sampling the delights of Paris at the same time!) and even had the chance to catch up with some of their lovely existing French partners.

Keep an eye on this jet setting duo…they may just happen to be present at other conferences this year (A4u and E-Commerce amongst others) both in the UK and abroad. For dates to put in your diary watch this space.

Integrated Dynamic Assets With Your Website’s Content

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Hey Publishers,

Sometime it’s also worth reading the blog from our sister affiliate program in the US and see what Publishers are doing on the other side of the pond. There the Shopzilla Publisher Program has been around for more than three years now and has several thousand publishers onboard. One blog post in particular that we’d like to point out is Publisher Spotlight on Tim Flight and GPSReview.net from June  2008.  Tim from the GPS review site (www.gpsreview.net) gave some great tips on content integration which is why we’d also like to share this advice with our UK publishers.

How well does the Shopzilla UK Publisher Program content you select fit with the context of the page?  Is your audience reading about Nike trainers, but your assets display Adidas and Converse sneakers? We get a lot of questions about how to generate more quality clicks and one of the answers is integration. Our UK Publisher Program offers a wide set of product offerings from thousands of different merchants, so take advantage of it by displaying assets that suit the content of the page!

Tim also gave a very detailed tip for WordPress users interested in using Dynamic Assets. While we cannot be held liable for any code you may accidentally break (read our FAQ), Tim’s advice has brought GPSReview much success:

Create the Dynamic Asset using just the letter “a” in the “Search For” field as the keyword. Pick the banner size, set your colors, etc, and then get the HTML code. Look in the HTML code for the following:

/keyword-a/

Replace that with this:

/keyword-<?php echo(urlencode(strtolower(single_post_title(”,FALSE)))); ?>/

That code should take the title of the WordPress post and use it as the keyword for the ad unit.
Keep in mind, this will be optimal only for those publishers using the product name as the blog post title. Hopefully, this will help you save time by making our dynamic assets… well… more dynamic! As always, please contact us with any questions or comments.

Shopzilla’s Publisher launches in DE and FR

Shopzilla's Publisher is expanding further into European markets

Shopzilla's Publisher is expanding further into European markets

The Shopzilla Publisher program has finally expanded across the water and launched in both France and Germany. Widely known in France as one of the top five price comparison websites, Shopzilla.fr saw great interest expressed in its Publisher program at the E-commerce tradeshow in Paris in September. Equally, German reaction to the program proved unequivocal at Munich’s DMexco conference in late September where the program was met with much eagerness.

With the Publisher program growing steadily in the UK after its introduction of dynamic assets to the affiliate world, reception in these two previously Shopzilla-untouched European affiliate markets was very enthusiastic. Of particular interest at both the German and French conferences was the FTP data feed product, which allows publishers the chance to download either partly or wholly Shopzilla’s merchant inventory, adding a slice of the price comparison pie to their websites.

Unique to Shopzilla, the wide range of advertising options enables Shopzilla publishers to choose amongst custom text links, search boxes and top search result display banners, to name but a few, as well as to really customise the content with new integrated tools.

We know many of you out there have several sites geared towards the French and German market in addition to the UK, so please feel free to sign up and get the most from our now 3 tiered program.

To join the FR program, please go to our FR portal.

To join the DE program, please go to our DE portal.

For any questions, please do get in touch by contacting us here. We’ll be happy to help!
