Pancake Day Gets Us All in a Stir!

Oooh pancake time again! If you’re like us here at the Shopzilla Europe office, we know you’ll be cooking up some delightful treats for Pancake Day this year! We usually get ours around lunchtime as a scrummy dessert to finish off lunch - not to be missed!

This year Pancake Day falls on 8th March which is next week! Make sure you take advantage of the fact that people like us will be preparing in advance for Shrove Tuesday with new kitchen utensils and equipment. Display your banners early so as to cash in on those affiliate clicks and provide useful content to your visitors as early as possible.

Sapphire’s Are A Girl’s Best Friend

By now you will have  heard about the engagement between Prince William and Princess Catherine (as she will soon be known), and seen pictures of her gorgeous engagement ring once worn by Princess Diana.

The ring is a beautiful, large sapphire stone surrounded by 14 diamonds which at the time back in 1981 cost £28,000.  More rare than diamonds, sapphires are actually an ethical and eco-friendly (not to mention wallet-friendly) alternative to a diamond engagement ring.

Representing divine favour, they have been a favourite over the years for high priests and kings alike so William seems to be following tradition here and following in the footsteps of his father. Also known to symbolise faithfulness and sincerity, this jewel is the perfect gemstone for an engagement ring.

Release of Offer Markdown Information for the Catalogue API

A great extra service has recently been added for our Publishers. We have now added the ability to display offer markdown information within the Catalogue API Product Service.

Previously, we offered actual price information tagged as <price> within the <Offer> element. Now we additionally provide the original price and related markdown percentage to allow for display of markdown information for each offer. In the event an offer is not on sale, the response will return a markdown percentage of “0.00″.

The release of these new fields should not impact you unless you have developed a means of auto-generating your XML handling code based on the XML schema document for the Product Service.  If you have done this, you will need to update your schema.

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for snappy release notifications!  You will now be able to see an example result set returned with this new value through our Catalogue API Interactive Documentation.  In order to access this documentation, you will need to log in with your Catalogue API Key & Publisher ID.  Once you are in there, view the Product Service Resource section.  At the very bottom of this section, you will see a link “[ + ] show test form”.  This will allow you to test out queries, viewing sample XML.

Online Growth in Garden Furniture and Accessories

Summer is slowly but surely making its way here and predictions from the Met Office, promising the hottest weather in decades, have paved the way for online spending to tip the scales at £4.5 million. This is a 15% increase on last year’s spending and could reach new heights in the coming weeks, as we head into the Summer months.

Garden furniture and clothing in particular have seen a huge jump in sales so far in the last two quarters, perhaps due to those with green fingers who want to make the most of the fine weather and get their gardens looking rosy in time to enjoy some sun.
