One of the leading global publishers of digital and social games has a full line-up of portable interactive experiences coming out this year. Among the big games is a pair of Hollywood licensed games based on Immortals and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Despite a recent string of down months in U.S. video game sales at retail this year, a new report from research firm Gartner paints a very rosy picture for the global video game industry. When adding in revenues from burgeoning online, mobile and digital gaming sectors, Gartner estimates that worldwide spending on the gaming ecosystem will exceed $74 billion in 2011, up 10.4 percent from the $67 billion spent last year. By 2015, spending is expected to reach $112 billion.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) welcomed the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling that underscored constitutional protections for video games, developers, and video game industry artists. At issue was a 2005 California statute restricting the sale and rental of computer and video games. The ESA, the lead party in the case Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association/Entertainment Software Association, argued that the statute presented unconstitutional limitations on expression, and the U.S. Supreme Court agreed, holding the California law unconstitutional under the First Amendment.

At the 2011 3D Entertainment Summit, part of CE Week in New York, Vice President of Marketing for LG Mobile Phones, Tim O’Brien, delivered remarks on technology’s important role in the evolution of entertainment. Nintendo 3DS is getting some competition this summer from Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D. Announced at International CTIA Wireless 2011 and recipient of the coveted Best in Show honor from Laptop Magazine, HTC EVO 3D is America’s first 4G phone with a 4.3-inch qHD 3D display for a glasses-free 3D viewing experience. NEW ORLEANS – Post-Katrina, Louisiana courted Hollywood with major tax rebates and film and television production has skyrocketed. Now the state is looking at video games as a new way to bolster its economy. The state’s Digital Media Incentive program provides a tax credit of 25% of qualified production expenditures for state-certified digital interactive productions in Louisiana and 35% tax credit for payroll expenditures for Louisiana residents. Electronic Arts has already opened up shop in Baton Rouge and now Gameloft is opening a studio in New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana government is wooing video game companies from around the globe, hoping its major cities become technology hubs. Electronic Arts was the first on board last year, setting up shop in Baton Rouge on the campus of Louisiana State University (LSU). Now, Gameloft is hiring for a new studio that could open as early as this year. Gameloft makes games like Star Battalion for Xperia PLAY, which can be seen in the exclusive video demo below.

SAN FRANCISCO, California -- Gameloft, a leading developer and publisher of digital and online games, has signed a long-term, multi-platform licensing agreement with Epic Games that enables Gameloft to incorporate Unreal Engine 3 in four new games, two to be released in 2011 and two in 2012. The new games will be developed for the next generation of Android and Apple smartphones and tablets, as well as set-top boxes and PlayStation Network. Unreal currently powers Epic’s hit game, Bulletstorm, and the upcoming Gears of War 3. Gameloft most recently demonstrated Asphalt 6 on Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play at Mobile World Congress 2011.

BARCELONA, Spain – Gamers waiting for the PlayStation Phone will be able to jump into games like The Sims 3, Guitar Hero and a multiplayer-exclusive FIFA 10 this March when Verizon Wireless launches the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Sony Ericsson unveiled the new device and a full line-up of games to celebrate the start of Mobile World Congress 2011. There will be 50 games available at launch, including 10 from Gameloft. Sony did not disclose the pricing on hardware or games at the press conference.

Gameloft, one of the largest iPhone/iPad game publishers and developers, announced on its blog and Twitter page that it will be giving away ten of its iPhone/iPad games free, one every day for ten days starting Monday, May 10th thru May 21st excluding weekends.
