Our first priority is to respect your privacy and we will never share, sell or release any personal information to advertisers without your permission. We encourage you to read our PRIVACY code.

The Place an ad registration form allows you to opt-in to receive email messages from us or on behalf of our advertisers. We will not share your email address with any advertisers or third parties without your permission and you will receive email messages only if you have asked us to send them.

Children under the age of 18, but older than 13, should obtain parent or guardian permission before sending any personal information to thestar.com, or anyone else, over the Internet. We encourage parents to get involved with their children's online usage and to be aware of the activities in which they are participating.

Will I receive email that I have not agreed to receive if I accept your cookies?

Our create an account form asks for your permission to send you newsletters, special offers and promotions from the Toronto Star or on behalf of our advertisers. If you opted to receive these types of email messages you will be sent customized information via email. You can cancel this service at any time by editing your information. We will also provide direct access to our opt-out page in all email messages you receive from us.

How do I cancel my ad?

You can call our call centre at 416-777-7777 or 1-800-268-8323. If you have set-up an online account you can also log in and go to "MY ADS" and select the ad that you want cancelled.

I need to make a change to my ad, how do I do this?

You can call our call centre at 416-777-7777 or 1-800-268-8323. If you have set-up an online account you can also log in and go to "MY ADS" and select the ad that you want to edit. When you edit your ad, it must remain the same style and size as your original ad. The original phone number, location and number of bedrooms for your apartment cannot change. If your changes do not meet our policies you will be contacted by a classified salesperson prior to your ad being changed.

I can't find the classification that I am looking for but it appears in the paper.

What are the advantages of creating an account?

When you create an account you will be able to save ads currently not finished. You will also be able to log in at another time to cancel your ad, edit your ad or place another ad.

My ad is too expensive. How do I make it cheaper?

If you have created an ad that is out of your price range you may edit the ad and make it smaller by eliminating some descriptions or by using our acceptable ABBREVIATIONS. You can also select a different template or reduce the number of days that your ad is scheduled to run.

How do I re arrange the copy of my ad.

Once you have selected the items you want to appear in your ad, you can cut and paste or drag and drop the wording within the ad text box by using your mouse to highlight the copy. You may also type additional copy directly into the ad text box.

I created an account and now I am having trouble logging in?

When you created your account you would have been sent an email from starclassifieds@thestar.ca with a link that you need to click on in order to activate your account.

When my ad appears in the paper, will it look exactly like it appears here?

Not necessarily. We have provided you with a close preview to how your ad will appear but specific words may not appear exactly where it shows in the preview.

Will someone be checking the content of my ad?

Yes. Your ad will be checked for appropriate content and to make sure that it meets our policies. If there is a problem with your ad, you will be contacted by a classified representative.

Can I save my ad and come back to it later?

Yes, in order to save your ad you need to create an account. When you create an account you have the added benefits of being able to edit, cancel or place another ad without entering your contact information again.

Will my user id and password for thestar.com or my subscription work for placing an ad?

No, it requires a separate registration process but you may choose to use the same email address and password.
