ani7 Well..If you love somebody, even If they hurt you,we do forgive them.. to a great extend.Plus I feel we humans are wired in a way that we forget/forgive.We move on.Why hold on to grudges ,when we can just forgive and make things better.

bloggerminister In most cases, it's true. However, not all people realize the best reason why we forgive others.
The first benefit is, when we forgive, we are healed and it lessens the pain inside our hearts.

BlondeBookworm Absolutely. Forgiveness doesn't always mean something is resolved the way you'd like it to be. It means you're willing to accept that past actions cannot change, and choosing to move forward with that person in your life in spite of it.

rumpunchdrunk This is a very interesting statement and it got me thinking. I have forgiven people in the past because I still wanted them in my life (not a good enough reason) as I should of been forgiving them more for what they had said or done. Now I need to think a bit more on this.

TonyB are you thinking that your forgiveness should be more about them being deserving and that what they did wasn't really "them?" Personally I struggle with forgiving people to just keep them in my life so I think your stage and spiritual ability is further along than mine.

eugeniusgenius totally true, it's the surviving nature that pushes us to forgive even if we comprehend they do not deserve our forgiveness, we are open to overlook things just to keep them in our lives.

TonyB interesting insight. thank you for sharing that. you make it sound almost like it's part of our "make up." do you think it is or does it require a more spiritual view or do you believe for many it's a way to survive ?

rumpunchdrunk @TonyB. I'm still very much on that 'hard' road. I can and still do forgive but I don't forget, and this has led me to losing many friends in my life, as the trust issue has been severed. I've tried to work on this area but without much success. How can you really pretend that all is well afterwards when it clearly is not?..........now you got me thinking of a new dilema, is it real forgiveness then?

TonyB, I think you've given me a future topic idea, my thoughts are racing.

TonyB I have similar challenges. I have a difficult time wanting to be with people who have caused me harm although they are family members so I "am supposed" to get along with them. Right now it seems almost impossible to me. I don't even have a desire to be anywhere near them. I could pretend though as you say how good is that? Perhaps there is something deeper. The survival mechanism of "being part of the family" for whatever reason doesn't feel right to me. Please share whatever insights or discoveries you make.

    2. AngieA
AngieA The truth is that you don't forget but you can forgive. They are NOT the same as people say they are. Another thing to consider is that the people that hurt you the most are the ones you love the most other wise it wouldn't hurt so much. ANd if you truly love them, then you'll keep them around even though you don't forget.
If you don't, perhaps it wasn't love or a real friend that you may or may not have needed.

“There is no love without forgiveness, and there is no forgiveness without love.”

TonyB The truth is I totally eventually forget the reason why I was upset. It just takes time.

eugeniusgenius I don't know how it is for others but for me it's survival instinct, there were some people I was ready to forgive them everything after a while, but they would do the same mistake over and over again, which at some point I realized it was not worth it anymore so I've set them free.

nothingprofound My feeling is that there's never really anything to forgive. It's just life, and you forget it and move on.
