IN TEBOW WE TRUST, John, watches Tebow’s 316

-

The name ‘Steelers’ refers to the trade of Steel Milling in Pittsburgh, henceforth the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, a thief could also refer to himself as someone who steals, so a ‘steeler’ also?

Thou shall not steal is one of the Ten Commandments of the Holy Bible and the Torah and are considered and understood as moral imperatives by legal scholars, Jewish scholars, Catholic scholars, Islamic Scolars, and Post-Reformation scholars.

So the ‘Steelers (read thieves)’ with John (Elway) watching were ‘caught’ and ‘burned’ because He (Tebow) recognized the tight run-prevent cover 2 and banished them from a date to move towards the Super Bowl (Heaven) and he did it with 316 (John 3:16?) yards passing against the #1 defense , the Steelers, (thieves).

In case you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26KMZ0FTtXg&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

The CBS crew is caught ‘Tebowing’ after the Broncos defeat the Steelers in the Wild Card game.
So before you call or post comments on the blog referring to it as sacrilegious or taboo please note, that the US Supreme Court case Burstyn vs. Wilson in 1952, struck down a statute against sacrilege. They ruled that the term could not be narrowly defined in a way that would safeguard against the establishment of one church over another and that such statutes infringed upon the free exercise of religion and freedom of expression. BOOYA!!!
Or you could just know that I am a proud Catholic and my creator has a sense of humor.
Now, take a deep breath, relax and just smile knowing it’s all just for fun.
Tune into the Mike Allen show daily on 94.9fm from 5-6pm to get a more spiritual fill of sports! Coolest show you’ve never listened to! I promise.

The Rivalry Game is looming – Kentucky wins if, Louisville wins if

-

THERE IS NO OTHER GAME IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL’S REGULAR SEASON THAT PRODUCES THE COMPLETE AND UTTER DISDAIN BETWEEN TWO GROUPS OF FANS THAN KENTUCKY VERSUS LOUISVILLE.

If you talk to anyone outside the state of Kentucky and ask them about great college basketball rivalries they will inevitably say North Carolina and Duke is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest rivalry in college basketball. Why?

Because of the quality of the programs? OK.

What else?

The names that coached and played for those programs?

OK.

Hey, it’s a great rivalry no doubt.

The real reason though?

Is because ESPN force feeds ACC basketball,  and especially this rivalry, down the country’s throat like a like an ex-drill-sergeant-turned-butcher running an anorexic recovery program.

Are they both great teams? Yes.

Are their programs better than Kentucky and Louisville’s?  Certainly not Kentucky’s, and Louisville may have been THE college basketball program of the 80’s.

As far as the Duke/UNC rivalry being better than UK/UL can be debated, but to no real conclusion.

And why in the world did someone say at CBS that the UK/UL basketball rivalry compares to that of Kansas and Missouri?

 What?

I had no idea Missouri had an organized basketball team.

Kentucky is #1 in all-time wins, followed by North Carolina, Kansas, and then Duke. Louisville is #19 all-time.

Is the disdain between the Duke and UNC rivalry more bitter than that of the Kentucky-Louisville rivalry?

 I doubt it.

The bitterness isn’t just palpable between Big Brother (UK) and Little Brother (UL), it’s flat-out in your face.

BAD COACH, BAD COACH!

I challenge anyone to attend a game between these two teams and walk away thinking it’s not one of the most intense, fiercely played games they’ve seen all season, in any year.

Since the rivalry between the Cats and Cards resumed in 1983 after a 24-year hiatus, the largest margin of victory for either team came in 1986 when Kentucky was ‘Rex-in-effect’ crazy beating the Cards by 34, 85-51, thanks to Rex Chapman.

This year won’t see any of that with both teams in the top 5 in the national polls.

More than likely Louisville will be in a half-court trap to begin the game and force Teague and the young UK players into as many traps and decisions with the ball as possible. Rick Pitino teams, much like Bob Huggins teams, do a great job of controlling the tempo of big games. Look for the half court trap to keep Kentucky flustered and unable to get the best shot off before the shot clock expires.  If Kentucky isn’t able to adjust Louisville could be up by as much as 10 at the half.

Kentucky’s bread and butter is when the WHOLE team is playing well and they’re all looking for their shots.

Last year, Louisville was focused on stopping Terrence Jones because he had a huge presence in the Maui Invitational, and then got burned by a heady Brandon Knight  who recognized the strategy early and went on to torch the Cards for 25 points.

Chances are the Cards will double on Davis everytime he touches the ball and also to sag the defense to try and control the post.

Offensively look for the Cards to screen at the high post and kickout for the three. With all that said……

Prediction here at AQ is:

Kentucky 78

Louisville 67

If the Ville’ wins, and they could, it’ll be a lot closer, like 76-75.

Go Cats!

Tebow’s Faith is a Big Problem

-

D@%$ BRONCOS!

Let me QB this whole thing for you. The name Tim has three letters, and so does the name GOD.

The name Tebow has five letters, and so does the name Jesus.

Oh no, the city of Denver has six letters, and so does Heaven!

Jehovah, (the proper name of the God of Israel), seven letters, gulp and the name Broncos has seven letters.

This is a big problem for me as a Raiders fan, but unless you are a Raiders fan too, maybe you should back off of Tebow and his faith.

In a world where we have shows dedicated to embracing wealth, and celebrity athletes who worship themselves, I think its a much needed and refreshing change to have an athlete who carries himself with humility and gives something else other than himself credit for their talent and ability and what we see them doing on the field every week. Many other athletes would be gloating about their performance, renogotiating their contracts, partying on the strip, and looking for endorsements from companies to ‘show them the money.’

And yet the outrage we hear from athletes, former athletes, and others on Tebow, is because of his faith?

Where was your outrage when your teammates and/or favorite players were accused of cheating? Shooting up? Rape? Domestic violence? Even murder?

Joe Flacco was barking that he was watching ESPN’s Sportscenter and it would be a highlight and then Tebow, a highlight and then Tebow etc…How did you play yesterday Flacco?

Get over it Joe, if you had enough highlights maybe we’d see you a little more. Sorry, that wasn’t very ‘tebow’ of me.

Yet this kid, 24 years young, and born in1987 during an era of straight-up excess, does something amazing on the field and then genuflects (like so many others I might add) and gives thanks to his creator, and prays with humility, rather than pound his chest and scream ‘look at me’ and yet this stirs people up and draws there expletive ire that’s fueled by an alcohol-ingested rage at an NFL game?

How messed up are you?

Are you sick of Tim Tebow?

Here’s some advice: get over it.

I just saw an article out of the St. Petersburg Times where the writer explains Tebow’s faith in God as ‘self-efficacy’; to say that Tebow’s Christian beliefs are simply Tony Robbins mantra’s of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Thanks sports guru, but we don’t need your help on this.

Why are so many of us in the media afraid to just say, ‘hey I think it’s really cool this kid loves his faith and is humble?’

Do we fear a backlash from those that are God-less, atheists, and agnostics? So what? I’m not afraid of that, I say BRING IT ON.

If you believe one word of the Bible, you might as well believe it all, I say.

If you believe God spoke the universe into existence, then how hard is it to believe the story of Jonah being inside the whale? That would be nothing for God to do.

Like Leo Brown and Mike Allen would say; What if it is true?  With kudos to Real life radio 94.9fm and 1380am.

What if there is a God? Where will all of the non-believers be then at worlds end?

Hey good luck with that non-believers!

But because we know Tebow believes it and freely admits it, this intrigues the interest of so many that he becomes a focal point for rage and criticism. Let’s also remember it was not by his choice either.  He has never screamed for people to listen to him about his faith.

Websites are dedicated to hating him. Why?

Are they afraid of his message? Or worse, of his message spreading and people liking it?

This almost certainly begs the question, why is a country like ours, founded on Christian principles, tearing down a kid raised with Christian principles?

Tim Tebow is hated by lots of people but many, many more respect his views on faith and that he is not afraid to show it.

Tim Tebow is hated by lots of people but many, many more respect his views on faith and that he is not afraid to show it.

Here’s what we know of Tim Tebow:  He’s a great young man, who’s humble, who prays, and he respects all people, and loves God, plus he’s happy (all the time, like a walking billboard for prozac, zoloft, and paxil all rolled into one mega-super-happy pill), he loves his family and his teammates, he witnesses to death row inmates in the summer, and gives away alot of time and money to charity, he’s saving himself for marriage, he cares about others and respects their faith, and then prays for those without faith.

Yet somehow this attracts others to hate him?

More than likely it’s attracting resentment. Or resentment of Tebow based on someone else’s lowered sense of self-worth.

Tim Tebow is the best thing to happen to the world of the superstar-athlete role-models.

He is who you want your son to be mom. Honest, humble, loving, hardworking, and has faith in God.

Did you know that USA Today reported just a few weeks ago that the word ‘tebowing’ has been printed so many times it can now be labeled as an official word for use and print in the english language dictionary?

By the way, you can order a Fathead wall sticker of Tim ‘tebowing.’

Tebow started his first NFL game on December 19 of last year, as a joke some say, by the coach to prove to the fans he wasn’t ready.

He rushed for 78 yards, 40 of which came on a touchdown run in the first quarter of the game. It was the longest touchdown run for a quarterback in Broncos history and the longest touchdown run in NFL history for a quarterback in his first start.

He is a winner. He’s a Christian. He’s an American.

He’s also an incredible young man who we should applaud for his accomplishments on the field, respect for his personal views on faith and strong moral character, not be spitting venomous words at him because of it.

How about we celebrate the fact we have a great talent amongst us who loves to win, and plays football not for paychecks but for passion.

Now excuse me while I pause to begin my ‘tebowing.’

Forgive me Raider Nation, Go BRONCOS!

KSR’s Matt Jones didn’t believe in Roark – he does now!

-

Let me begin by saying if you want me to blast or berate Matt Jones then go to a different blog. It won’t happen here.

I listen to Matt on WLAP now and followed his KSR website and never did I steal or infringe his work – even when I loved it!  Besides being entertaining and good at what he does, he is amazingly prophetic with his predictions at times. So why wouldn’t I believe, or buy in to the humor, between him and my good friend Ryan Lemmond when they laughed at, of all people UK’s Matt Roark ‘guaranteeing’ a Kentucky win over Tennessee in FOOTBALL ?

http://kentuckysportsradio.com/

Sam Cooke said, “A Change Is Gonna Come.”  Kentucky football fans are starting to doubt that phrase with regards to this annual failure–to-win football game with Tennessee every year.

Even EA Sports NCAA Football game says “this ‘rivalry’ and ‘Kentucky is Tennessee’s oldest whipping post.’”

Roark guaranteeing a win? No offense to this young man but I can’t remember him doing anything that seemed eye-opening or jaw-dropping throughout the season, or any season that would declare me saying ‘Oh man Matt Roark guaranteed it! We’re gonna win now!’ A blocked kick in ’08?  5 receptions in all of ’09? Hardly a career of highlights.  Blah, blah, blah.

So when I heard MJ announce  that Roark guaranteed a UK win, I felt ashamed, for Roark. Poor kid. He must not get it. He hasn’t ‘tuned in’ the last 26 years to the annual embarrassment. This game has given credence to the phrase “it doesn’t matter Kentucky’s winning, this is Kentucky football, we’ll find a way to lose.”

Matt Roark boldly predicted that after 26 years of losing to the Vols, Kentucky would beat Tennessee in football on Saturday, is now a fact, and a pleasant one at that for the UK fans.

Examples:  4th Qtr, against Florida 2003

Beginning of the 4th QTR Kentucky 21  – Florida 3

Final Score Florida 24– Kentucky 3.

LSU in 2002 – you know the story.

Tennessee in OT, Tennessee in 4OT, Shane Boyd’s miraculous game in Knoxville. All losses. Etc…..

Poor Roark, he must not be from Kentucky.

Turns out he was born here in Lexington.

His dad played for Kentucky football as well – and never beat Tennessee either.

Why would this past Saturday be any different?

But thankfully, for all those wonderful fans of Kentucky football it was.

Turns out we fans didn’t ‘get it.’ Roark was going to impose his will on this game. So what?

Well, it now seems, Roark has a mighty powerful will.

And for the first time in over a quarter-of-a-century the final score had Kentucky winning a football game over the Volunteers.

The Vols had finally been Rocky-topped by the ‘gridiron Cats.’  Matt Jones, I’m sure, will be happy to eat his words as many of us will.

The best taste to the end of a losing season in football I have ever had at Kentucky.

Kentucky 10

Tennessee 7

FINAL

Wow that looks pretty!

Sorry I doubted you Roark, you’re the man!

“A Change HAS Come.”

No one left at the half did they?

Did you believe Matt Roark? Or did you even know he said they would win?

UK Basketball Greats where are they now? Antoine Walker

-

One of my all-time favorite Wildcats was Antoine Walker.  People outside of Kentucky only remember his gambling and bankruptcy.  He brought a swag to UK basketball that had been missing since Rex Chapman played. People forget just how great of a player he was. Remember he was the sixth pick in the 1996 NBA draft (he was 19-years-old).  We know about those things here in Kentucky but choose to remember his great play, his passion for winning, and the fact he hung a National Championship banner in Rupp Arena.

Welcome Home Antoine – if only for a little bit.

If you want to meet Antoine Walker you can. This Sunday at Lexington Sports Cards from 2-3:30 pm. He’ll be signing autographs there!!!

What’s your favorite Antoine Walker memory?

Kentucky Men’s Basketball wins again, but will suffer from …………

-

OVERCONFIDENCE.

But one need not worry, Cal will take those early dunks by Kansas and turn them into HUGE teaching points weather or not they really are. And he should, he’s gotta keep those heads from swelling. Everybody in the Commonwealth besides Cal genuflects when the Cats walk by.

Kansas did what a veteran team is supposed to do, they came out and played confident early. However, I’ll take great talent over, well, pretty good talent any day, right Bernie?

Kansas Head Coach Bill Self said before the game,  ’it’s going to be a fun night.’

Well, how fun was it Bill? You looked beside your ‘Self’ in the second half.

21 Field goals in the first half between the two teams and 22 turnovers. That says a lot. Nerves? Yeah, a little bit. Come on Madison Square Garden!? ESPN!? Live!?

But……..

After a slow start for Teague and the ‘kiddie’ Cats (28-28 at the half) great talent outdid ‘pretty good’ talent yet again.

Kansas was ‘silenced by the Lamb.’ 3 of 5 from three-point-range and all in the second half.

SIDENOTE: I love Dickie V and Dan Shulman, but guys, SHUT-UP WITH THE “JUST PLAY, NO NEED FOR THE SHOWMANSHIP,  JUST PLAY” crap. All teams do that. These are 18 and 19-year-olds starting at Kentucky, they are allowed to flex and strut a little.

And did it seem they were ‘hating on the Cats in the second-half? Somebody help me because  am I alone here?  I’m really asking.’

Anyway….

26-9 after the first 10 minutes of the second half. (54-37 Kentucky leads)

MESSAGE!

Kansas never recovered.

Then at the 6:11 mark you got to give it up for the Cats for taking the ‘high road’ and not giving in to the ‘hate’ after Jones was stepped on by a Kansas player that was frustrated by these youngsters. Just watch the replay.

These guys are good.

Final score:  Kentucky 75

Kansas  65

And they’ll only get better. Wow.

Hate is a slippery Slope for Coaches and out-of-town Sportswriters

-

By: Steve Tressler

LEXINGTON, Ky.  -  Hey look, the Cats had nothing to gain by beating Transy last night. So they didn’t play with energy until Cal told them at the half to start hustling. Only then did we see players getting on the floor that weren’t wearing maroon jersey’s.

I understand that Kentucky basketball has some haters. Who wouldn’t? After all, UK has won 7 NCAA titles to UCLA’s 11 and yet, it’s Kentucky that is referred to as the ‘basketball capital of the world.’

The Cats have had four different coaches win a national title here. No other school can say that.

The two coaches who have taken three different teams to the final four, yup, both took Kentucky (Cal and Rick) and their other two teams.

Our Big Blue Madness is…well…Madness.

Other schools ‘madness nights’ look like a pickup game at the ‘Blue Courts.’ It’s a UK thing.

Haters are all around.

Not a single vote for #1 in the AP poll? You mean there is not a single sportswriter in the country that thinks (read wants?) UK is going to be ranked #1 at season’s end.

At least Coach Cal believes, maybe that was our one vote in the Coaches poll.

Let’s look back at this article in the second week of April. I’ve never seen a team so loaded except for maybe UNLV in the early 1990’s.

Mark my words…..this year will be SPECIAL!!!

The millionaires are at it again! NBA version.

-

Things aren’t that great in America. Not even in pro sports. But believe me pro athletes, they’re alot worse in the stands.

People have lost jobs. More people on government assistance than ever before.  The country is in a severe recession. A ‘Wall Street’ takeover. And once again we have millionaire athletes and billionaire owners fighting over “their” millions that truly come from the fans.

This time it’s the NBA.

Is it any surprise the NFL players finally found a suitable arrangement?  I mean consider this, NFL teams are loaded with men that HAD to either finish college and at the bare minimum stay at least three years.  The numbers I found say that almost 50% of the gridiron group had a degree.

The NBA has 2%. What? 2%?  We might as well name them. They’re’s room for that.

Steve Nash, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Danny Granger, Emeka Okafor, Nazr Mohammed, and Adonal Foylehas.

No wonder they can’t agree.  The rest one could argue, are a bunch of overpaid 25-year-old adolescents who have topped out with a high school diploma. Maybe they spent a year on campus at a college or university at most. Then consider that most of  the one-and-doners never went to class in the spring semester. Why?

They’re going to the NBA.  Or so they hope.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying ALL NBA players are overpaid adolescents demanding more money from the owners, wether or not they perform at a level that is worthy of their checks. Most players want the lockout to end, play basketball, engage the fans and support their families. In alot of these cases they (the athletes) have to support there siblings families as well.

The owners are the ones pinching pennies, literally. But hey, you can’t get rich by spending all that money, right?!

Without your players – you don’t have a product!

Their’s the rub.

The worst part? If you were to take a look at the business model for most NBA teams, it’s a mess. Seattle had to put a stop to the Supersonic debt they were incurring, and they had good teams on the floor and good attendance. Even Microsoft bailed on them. Six Sigma guru’s would be employed for years if hired at most NBA offices.

The people that get hurt are not the owners. They have money. If you WRITE checks for 12-14 millionaires salaries every week you’re doing just fine.

It’s not the players and NO it is not the fans, they’re just disappointed.

It’s the stadium  and arena workers who rely on that NBA season so their families can eat, have the water turned on, have heat and a roof over their head.

Poverty wants a lot, greed wants it all.

Listen to the Lexington Catholic Knights tonight live, as they take on Taylor County for the Class 4A 6th District Championship!!!!

LISTEN LIVE @ 7 PM ON:

SCORE PREDICITION:

LexCath 59

Taylor Co. 7

NOW FOR MY THREE “AIR-TIGHT LOCKS of the WEEK!”

Mississippi State will cover 19 at UAB. UAB is always tough at home but they’re 0-4 this year including a 49-10 beatdown by Tulane. They’ll be jacked up to play MSU, an SEC team. In the end though, is State 19 points better? Yes. Yes. And yes.

Illinois will cover 14 at Indiana.

Florida is a 13.5 point underdog at LSU – don’t think LSU will any problem covering  that much against this Florida team,  LSU should win big.

Knights Catch Boyle County ‘Letton’ Their Guard Down!

-

Basic rules when scheduling a team for homecoming say ‘you never schedule an opponent as good as you with an incentive to win.’

The next rule says; ‘and never make it personal with said team.’

Boyle County broke both of those rules when the visiting Lexington Catholic Knights walked into Rebel Stadium on the Boyle County High School  campus last night as the scheduled ‘lamb’ for the Rebels homecoming.

And why not? After all, the Knights had lost six straight to the Rebels who had two state titles and a state runner-up finish in the last three years. All while beating LC in the regular season each of the last three years, and to make it worse, beating them in the playoffs and sending them home from the playoffs each of those years as well.

But it got worse.

The homecoming sign the players bashed through to make their entrance onto the field was personalized for Knights head coach Bill Letton. Reading “We’re not Letton you win.” (see below)

The Rebels tried to make it personal with the Knights. LexCath didn't buy-in and took care of business on the field beasting Boyle County 20-13 at Rebel stadium in Danville on Friday September 30, 2011.

The Rebels tried to make it personal with the Knights. LexCath didn't buy-in and took care of business on the field besting Boyle County 20-13 at Rebel stadium in Danville on Friday September 30, 2011.

Not as prophetic as the Rebels would have liked however.

It was all tied up 13-13 and on 3rd and 7 from there own 22 yard line in the fourth quarter with just 4:57 seconds to play the Knights had to get a first down. The momentum was all on Boyle Counties side. And then it happened.

What?

Casey Nash happened.
