People could argue for hours on end about which Metal Gear Solid game was the best.  Some would say that the original PS One release can’t be beat; others feel that Peace Walker was a significant move forward for the series; and some will even swear up and down about Sons of Liberty rocking hard, even with the odd inclusion of a nude Raiden.  However, most of the consensus believes that Snake Eater, the third chapter in the series, is truly significant, if only because it takes place in a different time, telling the story from a new point of view.  And if you somehow missed this story, you have another chance to catch it, this time on the Nintendo 3DS with Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater.

It’s frustrating to see an interesting concept in a video game go to crap because the developers couldn’t come up with a way to make the gameplay more enjoyable.  Case in point with Konami’s NeverDead – it has some good ideas behind it, and the main protagonist has a good head on his shoulders.  Well, part of the time, anyway.  But the game's potential is squandered by bad controls and ultimately bad decisions that may leave you cursing at the thought you have to live through all this.

Gotta love it when you see rumors leading up to the release of a big title, but without confirmation from the company that's releasing said title, and then they come out of nowhere and release it anyway, and the audience remains just as thrilled as they would be if it was announced.  Konami, you sneaky devils.  Anyway, after 21 years of being stuck strictly in arcades (we'll forget the crappy PC port exists), The Simpsons Arcade Game has finally gotten a home release for digital download.  And as expected, it's been worth the wait.

Know what's great?  When an independent game darling gets its time to shine in the spotlight thanks to a generous publisher.  We're seeing a lot more of these hit the gaming scene, and personally, I love it, though a little more advertising for said product wouldn't be a bad thing.  This time around, Konami has published Puddle, a 2010 Independent Gaming Award darling made by Neko Entertainment.  Just in playing it for a few minutes, you see where its appeal lies.  Unfortunately, it doesn't really let on how tough the journey gets until you really get into it.

Consoles and PC's have had a slow month interms of new AAA quality games arriving for your respected platform. While January got off to a slow start, it quickly recovered to bring us high quality tittles through digital distribution. Plenty of great downloadable arcade tittles were made available through XBLA, PSN and Steam, giving us many hidden gems on the digital marketplace. Let's look back at the games we reviewed over the past month.

If there's a company that has proven that old-school games do big business, it's Konami.  A few years back, it brought back the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game to Xbox Live, attracting a whole new crowd to the old-school beat-em-up antics, complete with online play.  And last year, it continued to capitalize on such success with the enjoyable X-Men: The Arcade Game.  Next week, it'll be back once more with the long-overdue -- and highly requested -- The Simpsons Arcade.  And yes, it's officially coming, at least from what Sony says.

Videogames have come a long way since 1982. That was the year the original Choplifter debuted on the Apple II computer before taking off at arcades and other platforms. Although there have been sequels, as well as a previous remake attempt, nothing has worked as well, or captured the true spirit of the original, as this new downloadable game from developer inXile Entertainment and co-publisher Konami for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Driven by fast-selling software Nintendo 3DS sells more in its first nine months than Wii did, capping a very good 2011 for the game maker. Whether they were on the go or at home, whether they played in 2D on the TV or in glasses-free 3D in their hands, gamers of all ages celebrated the holidays with Mario and Zelda. Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 for Nintendo 3DS not only became the fastest-selling titles in the history of their respective franchises when they launched, but they are now also the first Nintendo 3DS titles to sell 1 million units each in the United States. On the console side, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which also broke launch records, became the 45 Wii title to sell more than 1 million units in the U.S.

There’s never been a better time for Gleeks. The new season of “Glee” has righted its ship after a rocky start, and now there’s a new Konami Karaoke Revolution: Glee Volume 3 game for Wii on store shelves. Complementing the third Wii game is Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Glee: The Concert Movie 3D Blu-ray. The new movie introduces Shazam technology, which connects your PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Blu-ray, or DVD player to your smartphone.

Following the successful debut of the trailer for Konami’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance at Spike’s “Video Game Awards” (“VGAs”), the man behind the acclaimed franchise spent time answering questions about this new adventure during a press conference. Hideo Kojima delves deep into what gamers can expect when they pick up one of the big games of 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the video below.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a stunning action title, produced by Kojima Productions and developed by Platinum Games. The Spike Video Game Awards have officially wrapped, and while it's still a ways off from being considered a legitimate awards program like, say, the Oscars, there were plenty of entertaining moments that helped it beat out last year's ceremony.  And no sign of Olivia Munn...whew.  So what went down during the event?  We've got the full recap!
