The cloud gaming folks at OnLive may not have a booth on the show floor, but it's certainly leaving its mark at the Consumer Electronics Show.  It has announced a partnership not only with Google TV, but also with Razer, in an attempt to bring its gaming services to more devices, other than the PC, MicroConsole and, most recently, iOS and Android devices.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) Foundation’s 14th annual “Nite to Unite – for Kids” gala raised $900,000 to support the Foundation’s work on behalf of America’s youth. The proceeds from the annual dinner, auction and charity casino night will enable the ESA Foundation, the video game industry’s philanthropic arm, to improve the lives of children through grants to a wide variety of organizations, as well as a college scholarship program.

According to the Q2 2011 Games Industry: Total Consumer Spend report from leading market research company, The NPD Group, in addition to the $1.44 billion spent in the U.S. by consumers on new physical video and PC game software in the second quarter of 2011, the total consumer spend on content via other monetization methods, including used games, game rentals, subscriptions, digital full-game downloads, social network games, downloadable content, and mobile games, is estimated at $1.74 billion. The total amount spent by consumers on hardware, content and accessories is estimated at $4.5 billion, an increase of 1 percent versus Q2 2010.

Cologne -- Gamescom keeps getting bigger. Over 275,000 people from around the world trekked to the small German city of Cologne to check out the latest video games up close and personal. Attendance for this year’s Gamescom 2011, which ran August 17-21, was up 21,000 from last year’s convention. There was also a larger media presence, including from the U.S., as more game publishers debuted new titles at the show than ever before.

Cologne -- The 2011 Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe) kicked off Gamescom 2011 with a successful showing and a final attendee count of more than 2,100 game professionals representing 57 countries. Professionals from all areas of the game industry convened throughout the three day conference and engaged on trends and new opportunities among peers. Many speakers stayed in Cologne, Germany to showcase their titles to the media and public at Gamescom, which has also seen record growth.

THQ has shuttered multiple studios and canceled key game franchises as part of a “strategic realignment” of its internal studio development teams.THQ is in the process of transitioning its portfolio away from licensed kids titles and movie-based entertainment properties for consoles. The company has also killed its MX vs. ATV, deBlob and Juiced franchises. Homefront 2 remains in development, but it's been moved to Montreal.
