donfperkins Only you can answer that. If there were a universally accepted standard of fairness, there would be no war, and business would look a lot different too. :-D

donfperkins fairness is an objective concept, just like "freedom." it's hard to define because each of us has a different view and experience of it. that saying you reference reminds me that when it comes to things we feel strongly about, we will go to extremes to protect them, to promote them, and even get others to agree with them.

Agit8r Within the law, yes. The internal workings of the business world encourage machiavellian means to necessary ends.

EnterpriseMom Perhaps fair, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to sleep at night. Integrity is always important.

SchemaByte No, profit at any cost is what drives sweatshops, massive pollution, and chemical poisons like BPA in sippy cups (now finally outlawed).

Agit8r Let's ask a family court or the Hague if the original premise is even worth entertaining.

PBScott Man you wouldn't believe some of the letters I get for my website, tons of cease and desist letters. Here is one example.

I had someone tell me to remove an image I had of the Da Vince Vitruvian man with a guitar, saying it was their intellectual property.

I did some research, and found out the website was about two years newer than mine, I went to their website to have a look at the shirt in question, and although the Da Vinci part of the image was exactly the same, as it should be, the guitar was different. Mine had a hand drawn rock guitar on it, and his had a Gibson's guitar in it that had been shrunk down in Photoshop, but still carried the Gibson logo. The website was a very similar layout to mine, which I was not used to seeing, since mine is original, and just like on my website on the right there was a silly story about the shirt. Upon reading the story, I realized it was my story, with about every 4th or 5th word changed. I promptly sent them a letter telling them to F O.

I have never been a dirt bag, and I won't let people make me into one. Although there are people like the one mentioned above in my industry, I know better than to trust them, or do as they say. There is no reason for me to ever go down to their level. I started my business to get away from some of the scumbags I used to work with back in my commission sales days, and if I became one, how would I ever get away from myself ?

SchemaByte Apple contracts their iPhone production through Foxconn, and Foxconn put nets outside their sweatshops so the Chinese women attempting suicide would not be successful. So perhaps you're right, business is war - but not between companies, and I'd not call that fair.

MyTravelAffairs Yes. This saying has its origin in love being similar to war sometimes. Same as business those days.

ranfuchs I don't think that the question is valid. The term 'fair' is not included in the business dictionary
