It's been a buzzy week here at Affinitive! We've rounded up the best bits o'buzz that had us chuckling into our coffee and copy-pasting links in IMs. We're logging off this week with these in mind:
Spotify Rolls Out "Private Listening"
Music lovers need not worry about being unfriended for newsfeed spam. Spotify announced via Tweet a new feature that'll prevent auto-publishing listening choices. The new "private listening" mode will refrain from publishing on Facebook, so long as you remain in the mode. Though you'll still need a Facebook account to sign up, you can blast your 80s Power Ballad playlist on loop without remorse.

We've collectively taken a break from testing out cover photos on our new Facebook Timeline (find out how you can join in on the Timeline fun in the first story below) to round up the best bits o' buzz that had us buzzing around the coffee maker this week. We're logging off this weekend with these stories in mind:
How to Enable Facebook Timeline - Now
If you were like us, you also listened in on Facebook's f8 conference yesterday. We're intrigued by Facebook's new Timeline feature , which masks its slight creepy omniscience about cataloging your every action in your Facebook lifespan with pretty aesthetics. While we could wait a few more days until Timeline goes public, we'd rather just access it right now, bugs and all. For those still

Mark Zuckerberg made some important announcements affecting marketers at the f8 event yesterday, in particular TIMELINE, Facebook's new 'history of your life' feed solution to the problem of a user's social activity being lost to the bottom of the feed. Another major update included 'Verbs', contextual actions to the Like button such as Cooked, Watched, Read, Listened, etc. adding more depth to the sharing of objects a user interacts with.

The introduction of the Ticker, a light-touch version of the news feed for less important updates, and 'Graph Rank', the new algorithm supporting Edge Rank that weights news feed items using your perceived interests, were also major announcements for marketers. Other update

It's been a busy week here at Affinitive! We've rounded up some of the buzziest of the week's buzz. We're logging out for the weekend with these in mind:
Facebook Launches Subscription Feeds: RSS for Status Updates
Looks like our carefully culled news feeds are going to get a bit of a switch up. Facebook's had a busy week, rolling out one update after the next, the biggest one being the new "Subscriptions" feature that not only differentiates how much you want to hear from someone (between the options of "all," "most," "important,"), but allows you to subscribe to posts of people you don't follow, be they journalists, artists, political figures, or acquaintances. CEO Zuckerberg kindly demonstrated its use by turning

When Facebook unveiled "Open Graph" at their f8 event in 2010, it was the first time many of us had been exposed to Graph Theory. Basically, Facebook realized that they were onto something - they had grown so big, so quickly and had amassed so many users that they could essentially provide a global mapping of everyone and how they are connected/related… what's known as the Social Graph. What this means is that by Facebook "owning" the Social Graph and then opening it up for others to integrate with, it would cement their standing as the ones who are "powering" the social web. "One Graph to Rule Them All", as Fred Wilson put it.
Types of Graphs
Over the past year, we've seen the emergence of a number of other "graphs", each of which having players that are vying to "own"… thereby, controlling particular slices of the social fabric by becoming the de facto source for that dat

If we had the new Facebook news feed, these are the news items we'd have published to our co-workers smart list. Instead, we've been forced to discuss these in our private Facebook group. We're logging out for the weekend (and repeatedly hitting re-fresh on our Facebook) with these bits in mind:
Remembering 9/11 through Facebook
In collaboration with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Facebook will ask users to remember and honor the day by updating their profile photos or dedicating statuses in remembrance of victims. Upon launch, the 9/11 Memorial app will be featured on prominent Facebook pages, including those of Congress members, presidential candidates, federal agencies, non-profits. Should a user choose to donate their status

A bit of a self-promotional plug ahead, but it's for a good cause!
I've never been much of a runner. The longest race I've completed was 3.2 miles when I participated in the Mets 5k race to home plate in 2005, back when Shea stadium was still called Shea and I had just moved to the 'big city' from Iowa. So, you know there must be a really good reason if I'm volunteering to run 26.2 miles on November 6th.
I'm supporting my favorite NYC nonprofit, CampInteractive (CI). Camp Interactive is a Bronx-based nonprofit that inspires inner-city kids to step back into nature and forward into technology. Learn more about Camp Inte

We've gathered the more interesting bits and pieces from around the web that had us buzzing. Before taking off for the long holiday weekend, we're logging off with these items in mind…
Beyoncé's Baby Bump Ousts Bieber as Mayor of Twitter
Twitter just about exploded with the live tweeting of the VMAs - and for once it wasn't all about Justin Bieber. Twitter confirmed that at precisely 10:35pm upon Beyoncé's baby bump reveal, the record for number of tweets sent per second (TPS) soared to 8,868, breaking the previous TPS record, set during the final game between Japan and U.S during the Women's World Cup. Trendrr put together this awesome infographic of who was doing the most talking, about who, and what they were using to do so, confirming that for snappy, li

We've gathered the more interesting bits and pieces around the web that had us buzzing. As the week comes to a close, we're logging off with these in mind:
QR Codes with Your Morning Cereal
Kellogg's has rolled out a new campaign targeting men by using QR codes. The cereal in question, Crunchy Nuts (we know), has taken a new twist on "it's five o'clock somewhere" with "it's morning somewhere," specifically targeting men between the ages of 18 and 35. Users scan the QR codes on the back of cereal boxes to be taken to a mobile site that would show one of thirteen different mornings in foreign locations. Reports say that the campaign resulted in 38,000 videos played and 50,000 page views.
