E3 2010 attendance hits 45,600, E3 2011 dated

E3 2010: Entertainment Software Association reveals attendance figures, next year's show returning to LA June 7-9.

LOS ANGELES--The 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo wraps up today, and the Entertainment Software Association has already booked next year's event. The E3 show runner and industry trade body today announced that the annual event will return to the Los Angeles Convention Center June 7-9, 2011.

As for this year's event, about 300 exhibitors and 45,600 attendees from 90 countries descended upon Los Angeles for the show. That figure is slightly higher than 2009's attendance, when some 41,000 developers, analysts, investors, journalists, and retailers turned out at the LACC.

News from this year's press briefings included Microsoft's announcement of a new Xbox 360 model and Kinect's Nov. 4 debut; Sony saying its motion-control technology rollout will begin in September; Nintendo debuting the 3DS and the next Zelda game; and lots more.

For those who missed this year's event, check out GameSpot's complete coverage of E3 2010 for a plethora of hands-on previews, news, live stage demos, and more.

I so wanna be there virtually this year! Last day public attendance sounds would be awesome! Even with the cost. Lets see about that petition!

Someone should start a petition for general audience to attend E3 2011....or 2012. If we're all still alive.

The most irrelevant BS I've ever read... A good article by GS, don't get me wrong - but how many people there are really gamers huh? And not the ones that paid $1000 to get in either. So that makes like what 5? Until the day I can walk in to the E3 conference with my bros and look at all the cool stuff E3 can shove it. These numbers mean nothing. It's bad enough we get shafted with $60 games and we can't even look at them for free? Yeah whatever...

Its ridiculous that media publication have resorted to unfair and biased tactics of trying to ruin a game developer's product or a console, kind of like how EGM had a cover story following the PS3 launch where they posted doom and gloom while at the same time they NEVER had a doom and gloom cover story on XBox 360 failiures or even poor quality games like Perfect Dark Zero, a game not even the truest of xbox fanperson owns in their library or even remotely likes yet the game was praised with glowing reviews while being carefull to avoid the real problems with the game.

GodGundamNT1 60 pts

@mateusprado E3 used to have a public day, do some research on that and you will find out the reasons why it had to be changed, you might find it offensive but Americans, better yet US citizens seem to have a hard time behaving themselves or understanding what they are looking at when they go to "trade shows" like these, they will predictably make judgements on "in development software" and utter words like it sucks or its boring and basically go on forums with that ignorance. Even worse is when they have some kind of fanboy allegiance, remember the people (obvious XBot fanboys) shooting b b guns at the PS3 launch to disturb the customers waiting in line? There was also the issue of security, people were literally "stealing" stuff at E3 and the "Booth Babes" were being harrased. There is also the issue of booing at presentations and overly way too excited cheering at others... in a "TRADE SHOW!!" so yeah a few idiots ruinned it for everybody else but we have to deal with it.

E3 this year is ok I'm just disappointed that no one mentioned about Resistance 3 ;( coming next year was really waiting for any announcement

Im juss sayin, I wish they had more chances and sweepstakes that the public could enter to go to E3. usually the ones I see are like G4 sanctioned tho. Besides when I look at the live coverage year after year, most people in the backround don't even look that impressed... talk about a waste of attendance.

langrisser2005 5 pts

I really wanna go at least once, just for the experience. I'll save pennies to fly over next year perhaps!

Cyclonus86; do you not remember when E3 was in May?

Cyclonus86 5 pts

If it was open to the public it would cost $500 to get in. I don't think the public will pay that. I've never missed an E3 but if the public was allowed in I probably would skip it. It would be out of control, there would be thugs everywhere drunks & @ssholes it will be the worst E3 ever. I'm glad that this idea of making E3 public will never be a reality.

Led_poison 38 pts

why is E3 happening earlier every year?

Toggy 5 pts

Blizzard doesnt go to E3 anymore. They have their Blizzcon where they will announce things about D3, expansions, and the new secret MMO. Another things on letting more public in.. Tokyo Game Show has about 200,000 every show. If the current E3 venue cant handle it they should go somewhere else. No offense to those in California though. Usually good weather there this time of year.

@ 1icecube1_basic 1) you sound like you're in the "industry". Good for you. Tell some more internet people you're so cool. 2)If you were in the industry you'd care more about your market. You get feedback from your consumers before you ship. Treat your consumer with equal respect you would towards your peers. 3) Important business is not done on trade show grounds. It's done behind closed doors... but oh yeah i forget, you're in the "industry". I get a kick out of you. Pretty funny stuff

1icecube1_basic 5 pts

1) After going to E3 week this week, I must say, opening it up to the general public would suck. I don't want a bunch of you bums showing up ruining the vibe and drooling over celebs when they walk by you. They would have to make it a weeklong event or longer. It would be too crowded and too much chaos from the general public showing up. There are people on the floor actually doing business. Having bums walk in just because they are a fan would clog everything up. 2)If you really wanna go, just buy a pass off Craigslist. They do NOT check ID at the door and as long as you got a valid badge around your neck, they wave you right in. I saw all sorts of people there that looked like they had no business being there at all. It may be invite-only, but if you really want to go, you can, as long as you find somebody selling their badge. And most people do. Most people who work in games cannot go all three days. And 45,000 people isn't that crowded at E3. It's insanely huge on the floor. Doesn't feel that crowded at all.

@ jdr589: I totally agree. If the Super Bowl can come here then so can E3. Even though regular schlubs like me couldn't get in but still would be cool

Why is E3 always in Los Angeles? It should be in New York City at the Javitz Center... Come on E3 be in NYC 2012 or 2013

I thought the reason they changed E3 in the first place was because of too much attendence... hmm.

E3 was great this year, there are lots of exciting new stuff. There seems to be more than a few small players that can potentially give Microsoft and Sony a run for their money; there are great insights for investors to be gained at E3. By the way, besides the flashy booths you see in the media reports, there is a lot of other serious-read boring-business going on at E3. What if there was an E3 type show open to the general public? Remember E for All? ...Exactly.

2011 , Blizzard will announce Diablo III updates/release dates and probably a new game Warcraft IV or new WoW expansion.

Rennar 11 pts

They can't open it to the public, because the public wouldn't fit... Or at least, they'd only sell a limited number of public access passes...and they would be very expensive.

The_CJ_Dude 7 pts

If some of the public were allowed in, the conferences would be lively and the game makers would get more credit and cheers for their work... instead of the tiny applause for most games this year.

@ih8pie Despite your eloquence, which almost made my eyes hurt, there are people that DO HAVE to work, who do you think organize this? working people, who do you think presents the demos, new consoles, etc? working people. Those hot girls you see are also working people. Not everything in this life is fun. Video game industry in Latin America, which is where I live, is worth $700 million dls., and unsurprisingly this amount comes from HARD WORKING PEOPLE.

chriscrimson 5 pts

Is this really an achievement with it being invite only? They SHOULD invite at least some public interest - not just business, even if there's an age limit to keep young children from ruining the business side for people. Instead of it being "We'll play the new technology FOR you," we could actually get hands-on experience. PAX does this every year but E3? Nope.

ellez 5 pts

@ih8pie People do work at e3.. its not for kids to run around like its some chuck e cheese arcade. You see people blogging on their laptops and taping interviews. I went there not just to see the games, but it is also for networking, passing business cards around and whatnot. The companies have little offices at the ends of e3 to do business. While fun is still a factor, people in the industry realizes this is a business and bringing in people off the streets who just want to play demos all day will kill the business side of this industry. I went to this e3, from what you see here on gamespot, is pretty much the gist of e3.

@GodGundamNT1 wow u actualy think tht? the fact tht e3 is closed off from the public is bs and u know tht and u say ppl work at e3? i mean like a lot. cuz if its closed off to the public just for ppl to work then they must b working their effing asses off. i mean its friken e3 y shud ppl be working so much on e3?! wut ur saying is all bs. sure opening it to the public cud be a disaster, but let a set amount of ppl in. its ppl like u tht take away the fun from e3. ppl working thier asses off at e3? oh ur full of bs, so is any1 who thinks opening e3 to the public is a bad idea
