Star Wars: The Old Republic Free Weekend Starts On Thursday

Bioware wants to give everyone a chance to check out Star Wars: The Old Republic, so this weekend it is offering players an opportunity to play the game for free.

Starting Thursday, March 15 at 12:01 AM CDT and ending on Monday, March 19th at 2:00 AM CDT, interested participants can download and play the game free of charge, without any kind of payment information needed.

Bioware is directed those who want more information to www.starwarstheoldrepublic.com/weekendpass, but currently that page leads to a error page with a Wookie and a droid on it. I assume they are there trying to get the page fixed up.

If you decide you would like to partake, be sure to look at our guide on how to get started in The Old Republic.

  • Probably going to try this out, not much of an MMO guy, but this game sounds awesome
  • Awe. Some. No seriously, that's so awesome; I hope this made you fan of SWTOR if you weren't already.

  • I might actually take advantage of this. The only reason I haven't been playing...well, I was about to say it's for financial reasons, but really the game just lost me. It wasn't anything new, as far as I'm concerned.
  • No thanks, I will stick with world of warcraft. too many people got overexited about this being the "wow killer". Maybe I will check it out in a couple years when there is more content.
  • This has nothing to do with ME3's endings being fixed.........

And on a side note im waiting for the secret world in June, that looks pretty cool. now back to ME3
  • I've never played an MMO before but this looks like the perfect opportunity to start

  • I think I'll pass. I'm more excited about Guild Wars 2 than an free weekend, and the fact that I'll probably have to download 10 GB+ just for one weekend.
  • The Old Republic was a nice diversion for me in December. As a WoW burnout, I had high hopes, but burned out quickly on TOR. I tend to agree with folks who say that TOR is basically WoW with a new coat of paint, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. Gameplay mechanics, level ups, etc. are straight WoW clones, and there is a reason they are popular. If you like WoW and Star Wars, I think you will really enjoy TOR and should check it out. If you are a WoW burnout, I still think you should check out the free weekend because the story lines and full voice acting are impressive, but I don't think TOR will hold your interest for long.
  • Thanks! i am totally trying this.

  • GET IN. I've been wanting to check this out since release but was unsure if my laptop will run it and wasn't willing to risk £40 for if it couldn't!

  • Good sales technique. I'm not an MMO person but I've had this game since release and it's awesome.

  • This is the only way I'll play WoW with lightsabers.

  • no thanks, im still having fun with skyrim and my vita.

  • Oh... my God.... That's a brilliant idea! I'm definetly gonna try it out! And its FREE!

  • I wonder how many times I'm going to level my Agent with the rested bonus I've built up. XD

  • Does this mean that if you already own the game, but have no current subscription, you can play 2 days for free?
  • Tell Bioware all they have to do is put it on console, and you have 60 dollars out of my pocket, right on the spot.
  • Game is pretty damn fun as in a solo campaign..idk sp. Groups are cool I guess but the story lines for being solo I'm a Sith, so d a m n f u n.
Far as end game, there is none, looks like DC Universe where you just do daily stuff, that's just lame boring, tired of doing the same crap everyday, ya what mmorgps kinda are but daily just too much too often gerjebus, oh ya pvp, pfft anyways, x box sucks, im out
  • I'm definitely going to take up this offer. I have yet to have time to purchase this game, so why not try it out on a free weekend! Great idea.
