World-famous SXSW Festival in Texas uses Alcons Audio speakers

Dutch pro audio company, Alcons Audio, are to provide the sound for a venue at the world-famous SXSW (South by Southwest) festival in the Texan state capital of Austin.

SXSW—founded in 1987—whose musical element will take place between March 13th and 18th and will see over 2000 musical performances take place between 90 venues. However, the event has grown over the years to incorporate film and interactive elements—taking place between March 9th and 17th and March 9th and 13th, respectively—as well as music.

Last year the event is supposed to have generated over $167 million for the local economy making it the largest grossing event of the year for the city of almost 800,000 people.

What is more, SXSW also featured a secret concert by the unique band The Flaming Lips—who, as reported by API recently recorded a song revolving around the Apple iPhone’s Siri application—in 2006 which was named as one of the “top 10 music festival moments” of all time by Time magazine in 2010.

Alcons Audio is marking its inaugural year in the United States after opening a US office in June 2011 by launching its “Pro Ribbon Experience” tour at this year’s festival. The company—which was founded in 2002—will provide the sound for the IFC Crossroads House situated in the city’s historic downtown venue, Vice Bar, which is at the heart of teh festival on 6th Street.

“Austin is a very special place when it comes to music and live music venues,” explained Alcons Audio US Sales Manager, David Rahn, “as such the SXSW festival is the perfect place for us to kick off our ‘Pro Ribbon Experience’ tour.”

The rig at IFC Crossroads House will consist of Alcons LR14 and LR14B—which can be flown together—line array system. This will be complimented  by the 21-inch Alcons BQ211 true carbon fibre subwoofer package. Processing and power will be handled by Alcons ALC series amplifers which are loaded with 24-bit DDP (Digital Drive Processors).

Overall, this system was provided by Alcons with the assistance of Austin-based StageTech who are excited at the prospect of finally being able to utilise Alcons Audio tech at the superb event.

“I’ve been waiting for these guys to open their US offices for some time now and as soon as they did I made sure to get my dealership in place,” explained StageTech’s owner, Bill Mester. “The pro-ribbon based systems are by far the sweetest sounding PA boxes out there and I’m excited to have Dave and the US team here in Austin for the SXSW festival.”
