Thanks to the upcoming release of the Joss Whedon-penned horror movie "The Cabin In The Woods" and his requisite promotional commitments and interviews because of it, we've been hit with a nice influx of "Avengers"-related news recently.  There's been talk of the additional villains, the sequel and Iron Man's suit, etc.

When MTV News caught up with Whedon himself at the "Cabin" premiere recently, which kicked-off Austin's annual South By Southwest Film Festival Friday night we asked him to expand upon the comments about wanting the sequel to be more painful and personal, as well as what he's enjoyed most so far of the editing phase.

"Um, all of it," he said. "I really am, I'm enjoying it a lot."

By now, most of you know that a major character bit the dust on "Walking Dead" last Sunday, even if you don't know exactly who that character is. For before-the-jump spoiler-avoiding purposes, we'll refer to the deceased as Victim X.

Well, Victim X will be getting some company from Y, Z and perhaps a few other letters before "Walking Dead" season two concludes in two episodes. Heck, s/he'll get some company as soon as this week's coming episode, "Better Angels." Lots of rumors have been swirling about regarding the show's next victim, but the truth won't really be out there until the episode airs.

As this is "The Walking Dead," there's no shortage of people who could kick the bucket in Sunday night's episode. Keep reading for our rundown of likely candidates, then vote in our poll below with your pick for the next "Dead" casualty.

LUCID

It shouldn't come as any surprise to comic book fans that major Hollywood studios are busy snapping up rights to just about any graphic novel that they can get their hands on. With 2012 being the year of the superhero (thanks for that, "The Avengers," "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Dark Knight Rises"), the comic book medium continues to prove that it can make big bucks on the big screen as long as adaptations are done correctly.

The latest two projects to be picked up are "Lucid" and "Undying Love." Warner Bros has claimed both of them, which makes sense since it seems like their plans to adapt the DC Universe—much like Disney is with Marvel's—isn't panning out as well as the studio would have hoped. Sorry, "Green Lantern," you just didn't quite bring it all together for us.

Have you heard the one about the theft of Nicolas Cage's copy of "Action Comics" #1? If not, you'll hear all about it soon: it's being turned into a movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news that "Reno 911!" creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are writing a Lionsgate heist comedy centered on Cage's stolen "Action Comics" #1 and the "group of nerds" who committed the crime. Pretty damn awesome, if you ask me. Less awesome is the word that Cage is "unlikely" to play himself in the film, and that Jason Statham has likewise turned down the opportunity to get in on the fun.

Look, I'm a big fan of Nic Cage, specifically when the man is at his craziest. So I have some thoughts on this movie. Thoughts that many of you will not agree with. That's okay; I accept my status as a niche Cage fan, the kind that worships "Wicker Man" and devours "Drive Angry" with glee. That's the kind of "How to make Nic Cage's 'Action Comics' #1 theft into a movie" pitch* you'll find after the jump. Haters beware, you're in for a scare, and such.

Spider-Man does whatever a Spider can — an example followed by Andrew Garfield, who's doing everything he can to live up to the honor of playing Marvel Comics' most instantly recognizable superhero in Sony's "Amazing" reboot later this year.

As he's said in the past, the weight of playing Spider-Man is not lost on Garfield. The actor spoke with The Press Association about the blessings and curses that come with the webbed-out role. Thankfully for both Garfield and fans alike, most of the Spidey baggage falls firmly in the "blessings" category in his opinion.

"All the way through filming the Spider-Man movie, I felt like I was serving something greater than me," said the actor. "I wouldn't have done it if I didn't."

Oh boy. Now this would have been worth a few of Jack Bauer's signature "dammits."

In what's very likely the greatest what-if news of the week, Kiefer Sutherland revealed that once upon a time — aka the 1980s — the actor was being considered for the role of Robin in Tim Burton's "Batman."

"I'd just finished 'Stand By Me' and 'Young Guns' about the time that Warner Bros. were making the first 'Batman' film with Michael Keaton, and I got a call which asked me if I would be interested in playing Robin," Sutherland said in an interview with On The Box. "I was like: 'As in Robin with tights? No!'"

Earlier in the week, "Avengers" director Joss Whedon pointed at the incredible Hulk as the most difficult of Earth's Mightiest Heroes to translate to the screen. Ask the co-hosts of Talk Nerdy, and you'll get some different opinions in the mix.

No doubt, Hulk's a tough nut to crack, but there are a lot of tricky pieces to put in place in order for "Avengers" to come out successfully. So we want to know from you: which Avenger are you most worried about Joss Whedon pulling off without a hitch? Vote in our poll and explain your choice in the comments section or on Twitter!

Though John Slattery's name has been tossed around for several comic book movies, the man best known as Roger Sterling from "Mad Men" has only starred in one: "Iron Man 2." Slattery played Tony Stark's father Howard Stark in several scenes in the movie.

Unfortunately, when a much younger Howard Stark became a major character in "Captain America: The First Avenger," director Joe Johnston opted to cast a much younger actor as well. Dominic Cooper picked up the mantel of Howard Stark instead of Slattery, and apparently we won't be seeing the AMC star in a Marvel movie any time soon.

We know what you're thinking, but hear us out. Venom, although widely recognized as one of Spider-Man's most deadly enemies, has performed a number of heroic acts since his creation back in 1988. In fact, currently in the Marvel Universe, Venom is an outright superhero, having just been inducted into the "Secret Avengers."

Throughout the years, this slimy symbiote has made numerous appearances in Spider-Man related video games, television shows, comic books, and of course Sam Raimi's infamous "Spider-Man 3." Audiences all over the world rushed to the theaters to see their favorite psychotic alien on the silver screen, but were disappointed overall by the character's portrayal and minimal screen time.

It's no wonder that Sony has tapped "Chronicle" director Josh Trank, formerly rumored to be the main driving force behind a "Fantastic Four" reboot, to take the reins of a "Venom" spinoff movie. But how do you make a successful superhero movie without a traditional superhero? Click past the jump to find out!
