Guide Review - Suzuka Volume 1 - Anime Review

The story centers around our main character, Yamato. Wanting his first year of high school to be a new beginning, Yamato opts to attend school in Tokyo after his aunt offers to provide him with a place to stay. The "place" turns out to be an apartment where his aunt oversees a public bath. To earn his keep, Yamato has to help out at the baths which is okay, but he's the only guy living in the complex - all of the other rooms are occupied by girls!

On his way to his new home, Yamato meets Suzuka, another new student at Aoba High. Suzuka transferred to Aoba to participate in their esteemed sports program and Yamato discovers that she actually lives right next to him in the dorms. He's immediately taken with her, but doesn't know how to act around girls.

Enter Yasunobu, an old friend of Yamato's. Yasunobu is quite the opposite - a true ladies' man in action - and it's not yet quite clear if Yasunobu wants Suzuka for himself or if he's trying to help out Yamato. We also meet Sakurai, another old friend of Yamato's, except that Sakurai would love to be more than friends.

Suzuka doesn't have any intention of giving Yamato the time of day so Yamato looks for a way to get her attention. He discovers he actually has some track abilities - Suzuka is a high jumper - and decides to develop his talents to peak her interest.

Suzuka is a funny and romantic series with a whole host of personalities to round out the show. Just about everyone has an alternate agenda and its time well spent watching them work through all the drama that comes with going to high school.
