When you think "Batman" and "video game", you usually think of something dark, foreboding and completely involving, like last year's stellar release of Batman: Arkham City.  But you don't really think shooter, nor anything that goes tongue firmly in cheek, do you?  That's why it's so fascinating to see Monolith, the developers behind the F.E.A.R. series, go against type and create a game like Gotham City Impostors.  Not only is it something you'd never expect from the DC Comics Universe, but, holy rusted metal Batman, it's actually fun.

When SoulCalibur IV came out a few years ago for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, some players were disappointed by the series' jump to next-gen, even with the addition of nifty Star Wars characters.  (C'mon, Darth Vader versus Mitsurugi was pretty damn epic.)  But luckily, Namco realizes that some better balancing was needed, and SoulCalibur V brings it in spades, between some great new characters and the kind of multiplayer that will keep you addicted for some time.  It's just a shame that the single player content couldn't really keep up...

If there's a company that has proven that old-school games do big business, it's Konami.  A few years back, it brought back the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game to Xbox Live, attracting a whole new crowd to the old-school beat-em-up antics, complete with online play.  And last year, it continued to capitalize on such success with the enjoyable X-Men: The Arcade Game.  Next week, it'll be back once more with the long-overdue -- and highly requested -- The Simpsons Arcade.  And yes, it's officially coming, at least from what Sony says.

In its early days, THQ was best known as a kids game maker working with brands from Nickelodeon and Disney based on Hollywood TV shows and movies. But the Hollywood licensing business has dried up with the higher costs of development and the advances of smartphones and tablets (where those licenses still thrive). THQ isn’t exiting the games business, as had been rumored a few weeks ago. Instead, the game company is exiting the kids games business in favor of successful franchises like Saints Row.

Brandon Marshall set a Pro Bowl record with four touchdown receptions, covering 74, 29, 47 and 3 yards, in the annual Honolulu, Hawaii football contest. Marshall’s 47 yard catch is one for the highlight reel as he kicked the ball to himself while falling into the end zone. The Miami Dolphin receiver finished with six catches for 176 yards. The digital pinball market is on the rise again, thanks to some savvy developments being handled by development teams.  No longer is it an embarrassing affair of crappy ball physics or lame table design.  No, these guys are dedicated.  Take Zen Studios, who have been pumping out quality releases with their Pinball FX 2 and Zen Pinball compilations.  And that's just the beginning, as Farsight Studios is preparing for its own pin assault later this spring with The Pinball Arcade.  Luckily for us, we got a taste of what the company has in mind...

First off, for the record, I personally wanted a Ravens vs. 49ers Super Bowl.  No offense against the teams that are in there now, but we've seen that match-up before, y'know?  Regardless, the Patriots and Giants will be meeting up for Super Bowl glory this Sunday.  However, EA Sports has already provided its own take on the big game, thanks to Madden NFL 12.  So...who wins?

Note: This article contains material appropriate to the mature rating of the series and contains small spoilers from the season premiere.

It's no surprise that Spartacus: Vengeance has done as well as it has. The STARZ show has drawn in an immense (and diverse) crowd. Packed with gore, nudity, sex, and a surprising dose of humanity, the show has done well for itself and has already been renewed for a third season. Writer Steven DeKnight continues to impress with his scripts, as testament to the first episode of season 2. The episode boasted plenty of gore (opening with an impressive sword fight) and holding true to it's "M for Mature" rating. DeKnight did his research, describing in a live web interview recently that he prides the show on being as realistic as possible for the setting. Viewers are taken on a whirlwind ride during every episode, but with all that violence and sex, one has to wonder how the cast feels filming some of these scenes. Liam McIntyre (Spartacus), Lucy Lawless (Lucretia), and Viva Bianca (Illithyia) shared their personal experiences on set – and their answers may surprise you.

One of the first genre’s I ever got addicted to was tower defense games, but for awhile now tower defense games have long been stale. For a long time now, the genre hasn’t seen any dramatic changes, but still provided quality games for its fans. Recently, the genre has escalated to new heights thanks to advancements in smart phone technology and the integration of app marketplace. Developed by Futuremark Games Studio, Unstoppable Gorg attempts to reinvent the genre, but costly design choices ruin a potential hit.

Even though he sadly passed away a few years ago, the legend of Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.  The pop star brought us a number of classics over the years, and last year, Ubisoft opted to celebrate his legacy with the new game Michael Jackson: The Experience.  Now, he makes the journey to the PlayStation Vita in time for the system's launch next month.  But can the game still be a Thriller?

Well over a year after its release on the market, the Kinect motion device is really growing into its own for Xbox 360 users, not only with a few family-related efforts (Kinect Sports, Dance Central) but also a decent amount of games dedicated to the "hardcore" crowd (Child of Eden, Rise of Nightmares).  But there's not too much of a market for downloadable Kinect games as of yet, though Fruit Ninja Kinect is doing fairly well.  Maybe that'll change once people see how good the haunted house adventure game Haunt is.  Maybe.

Kim Dotcom, the founder and mastermind of the beleaguered file-sharing site Megaupload that was recently shut down by authorities, doesn't just face prison time and substantial fines for his alleged crimes, he has also lost his status as the world’s highest ranked player in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. With millions in the bank and a huge mansion from his illegal file sharing empire, Dotcom apparently had a lot of time on his hands and was playing a lot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 under the gamertag MEGARACER. Dotcom had earned the top spot in the first-person shooter video game late last year, according to MSNBC. With around 15 million players worldwide and over $1 billion in sales, Modern Warfare 3 is one of the best selling video games of all time.

OTTAWA, QUEBEC – Videogames have always played an important role in NHL All Star Games and Skill Competitions. There’s nothing wrong with trying to design a platformer that appeals to the old school.  A lot of us grew up playing games on the NES, SNES or some older system, and fondly remember the good ol’ days where the likes of Mario and Sonic truly got their start.  But even with the boldest original idea, your platformer doesn’t stand a chance if the gameplay isn’t solid enough.  There are countless Genesis games we can easily point out that suffer from this issue.  And, sadly, Crocodile Entertainment’s Zack Zero is stuck right alongside them.

Hot Shots Golf has been around for a number of years, getting its start on the PS One with the Mario Golf developers at Camelot bringing its cartoony world to life.  Since that time, a number of sequels have helped the series thrive, thanks to the development takeover at Clap Hanz.  They really know how a casual game of golf is supposed to play, with a simple swing meter, "cute" characters that players can easily identify with (Tiger who?) and breathtaking courses to play on, which will challenge your golfing skills to the max.  Next month, the series makes its return with Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational on the PS Vita, and fans should be thrilled by its arrival.
