College President Tom Leary told Eyewitness News, "Our outside auditing firm found some revenue discrepancies connected to that facility. We looked into the matter and felt we should turn it over to law enforcement. We will cooperate with the police and want to get to the bottom of this matter."
The training center is used by first responders, police and firefighters to train for emergencies. LCCC is paid by the organization to use the facility.
Leary said, "This is a non-credit program and not connected to tutition or fees. I don't want to comment on the amount of money involved or possible suspects so as not to jeopardize the investigation." Leary added, "But I want to reassure the public I am very disappointed by this and we will get to the bottom of it."
This probe comes just 19 months after a former dean of the college was convicted of stealing $17,000 from the cafeteria fund.
