Plunketts Creek, Lycoming County--The Loyalsock Creek overflowed its banks back in September, flooding out many homes in Lycoming County. And while the creek now looks normal, that's not the case for many homes and properties here in Montoursville and the surrounding communities. But one group of volunteers is spending the week rebuilding those homes to try to get the lives of flood victims back to normal.
Richard Bird says, "It's so wonderful. They are so much help, it's hard to thank them so much."
Richard Bird of Plunketts Creek could barely put his emotions into words Wednesday.
He and his wife Susan's home was washed away by the September flooding.
They've been living in a FEMA trailer next door since October.
It's a scene all too common in Central Pennsylvania
Jeff Dexter, volunteer team leader, says, "For me it deeply affected my soul. How could I just walk away?"
And so Jeff Dexter joined up with several other volunteers under the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church.
They've dedicated this week to rebuilding homes and lives here in Lycoming County.
John Best, project coordinator, says, "We're painting, hanging up doors, at the other home we've begun to dry wall."
The group works full days, doing what they can to help flood victims like the Birds.
And they do it for free, out of the goodness of the hearts and the hope that their work will truly change lives.
Best adds, "We want to make a Christian difference in their lives because these people have a lot of life to get back to."
The group says they are always looking for new families to help. To get in contact with them call 323-7542.
