Being a desert with arid climate, the variety of flora and fauna in Dubai is not as extensive as compared to the other parts of the world; however this does not devoid Dubai from having nothing to offer. There is a surprising variety of creatures and plant life that has managed to survive in the high temperature climate, making it unique to observe and refreshing to have.
The Flora
The date palm is the most indigenous and widely spread flora. It is also taken as a national pride. If we head east towards the mountains, flat topped Acacia trees and wild grasses are scattered all over the typical landscape. In some places the desert is astonishingly green, an absolute example of a desert oasis.
The city of Dubai on the other hand is managed by Dubai municipality that runs an extensive greening program. Almost all the major areas of Dubai have been landscaped immaculately with amazing horticultural techniques. Almost all around the year, the main circuits of Dubai are enlivened by the vibrant colors of flora.
The Fauna
The Fauna of Dubai rather the whole UAE includes the indigenous Arabian Leopard and the Ibex. For those who are curious of sighting, it is however a sad note that such sightings are extremely rare or else you have to be a desert jockey to and passionate enough to be propelled for such adventure. Other animals include Camels, Donkeys and Goats; all these animals can be sighted easily and often are spotted crossing the major highways.
Besides these animals, other desert life includes the Sand Cat, Sand Fox and desert Hare and a variety of Gerbils, Hedgehogs, Snakes and Geckos.
The Marine Life
The waters of Dubai are rich in marine life. The typical marine life off the Dubai coast comprises of Tropical Fish, Jellyfish, Coral, Dugong, Dolphins, Whales and Sharks. Various types of Turtles can also be found in the area including Hawksbill and Green Turtles considered and listed as endangered specie.
The most famous local water fish is Hammour. The waters of Dubai are well maintained and kept clean which gives a positive boost to the area’s marine life.
