Replay Expo, TV Cables, Website Updates

November 9, 2011
Posted by: Kloplop321

Evildragon and Craig(who was cursed with a moldy ceiling), went to Blackpool to the Replay Expo 2011!
That means they are done now
Many team members, including our repo guy, milkshake, and our friend who lost his name badge along the way, PokeParadox, met and made it on camera!
Furthermore, many visitors found the device quite interesting.
May88′s impressions, photos, videos and more can be found in this article!

Regarding the movement of parts from the dastardly CircuitCo(In Texas) to GlobalComponents(In Germany), the customs documents have been completed.
A prototype run of the PCB is anticipated during this month(November).

As resource costs, such as copper have changed, EvilDragon has requested a quote so that we may soon get the Yet-To-Be TV Cables! Maybe this time Iceland’s volcanoes and South America’s tectonic plates won’t screw us over.

Lastly, an individual that goes by Delicator will be helping busy EvilDragon with the main site with features like a croudsourced gallery, user generated content, and integration with the forum

EvilDragon working at Pandoras in his living room
This time straight from EvilDragon’s living room, where he is flashing some Pandoras.
The broadcast probably won’t be up for that long, so get your dose of EvilDragon-at-work while it lasts.

Also it seems like he will use it more often in the future, so be sure to check the page from time to time (mouse-over the “HTML” text to see whether it is online) as we won’t announce every time here from now on.

Screenshot of a stream showing EvilDragon working on a few Pandoras
Update: The webcam is now offline, tune in next time.

Update: Here is a HTML-only version for viewing on a Pandora or a general Flash-less environment. Thanks zLouD!

Original post:

[EvilDragon]Hi!

I’ll spend the next hours repairing Pandoras or replacing LCD cables that were broken from the very beginning as well as changing nubs, etc.

I thought you might join me, so you can:

http://www.openpandora.org/webcam/

You can also talk in #openpandora on freenode, I try to follow it at the same time :)

If that above link does not work for you for some reason try to open this link as a stream in VLC.

The End of Purple Tint

April 16, 2011

New and more flexible LCD cables
The new LCD cables are here, 2000 of them.
Those cables have been manufactured by a specialist for flexible cables and (hopefully) will eliminate the dreaded “purple tint of death”(tm) some users have experienced.
However the remaining (old) cables will still be used as the team has improved the building process over the past units and the last shipments had a drastically reduced failure rate. So there is no need to throw them away and to everyone worrying: The new cables will not improve the quality of the image or reduce ghosting, they are just more flexible and sturdy and will less likely break.

EvilDragon also posts some more numbers from CircuitCo, which you can read in his full post:

Another update on board numbers from CC

April 5, 2011
Posted by: gruso

EvilDragon has shared another email full of figures from CircuitCo. We could get used to this flow of information. Bear in mind that these numbers relate to just one aspect of the Pandora, and aren’t the whole picture of production. As usual, if you have Q’s, hit the source link for A’s.

Some might’ve seen I haven’t posted much since Wednesday… I had a lot of work in my other job, so I’m sorry for the lack of updates.
This means, that I’m late again with telling you guys the latest status from CircuitCo – the numbers I’ll post here are the status from March 29th.

The long awaited Hotfix 5 has landed, after a string of betas and RCs. If you’re running HF5 RC2 then there’s not a lot new in this list, but if you’re languishing on Hotfix 4 you’ve got some updatin’ to do. As usual the Hotfix is available in PND form or as a complete firmware image. Read on for the change list and download link.

A board production schedule, a lofty goal

February 28, 2011
Posted by: gruso

EvilDragon has received the long awaited board production schedule from CircuitCo, courtesy of the new guy, who we will henceforth refer to as the new guy. The information within may explain Craig’s optimistic tweet a few hours back.

You might’ve read it on the other thread already: We really got a schedule this time!
And we also got some more information about the whole process – for the very first time from CC!

It seems like it was a good idea to hire the new guy, he seems to know what he’s doing and tries to bring order into the Pandora chaos ;)
He apologized for any inconveniences we had so far as well and he hopes to be able to repair our confidence with CircuitCo – that’s something that sounds good to me!
Additionally, CircuitCo has increased the personnel and doubled the amount of machines they have, to increase production speed.

He analyzed the situation and told us what the bottleneck in the Pandora production is – after all, they thought they can do 500 a week at the beginning, which certainly isn’t possible.
He wants to help us improve to improve the last remaining issues in the future, so that the production should really be faster and more reliable.
