Valve rumoured to be building 'tiny PC' console

Rumours have emerged that game developer Valve may be entering the console space with a device akin to a small but high-spec PC that will be able to run its game streaming service Steam.

One theory is that the firm will announce a potential 'Steam Box' at this year's Game Developer's Conference, on now in San Francisco, or perhaps at E3.

The rumours have been given some weight by Valve product designer Greg Coomer, who last November posted a picture of this small form factor PC on Twitter, saying: "Built this tiny PC. i7 quad core, 8GB ram, Zotac Z-68 mobo w/ onnboard Nvidia mobile gfx. Runs Portal 2 FAST."

Valve's managing director Gabe Newell recently told Penny Arcade: "Well, if we have to sell hardware we will... It’s definitely not the first thought that crosses our mind; we’d rather hardware people that are good at manufacturing and distributing hardware do that. We think it’s important enough that if that’s what we end up having to do then that’s what we end up having to do."
