Hot on the heels of Mobile World Congress, where Google’s Android dominated. Business is still booming for Android, according to the latest analysis from SkillSoft’s Books24x7 ITPro collection.  Android outranked iPhone in the number of searches by IT professionals for information and support on the open source mobile platform over the last twelve months. The results indicate Android’s growing popularity in the business community and reflect the development potential of the open source platform as techs and developers look for further guidance.

BARCELONA, Spain (Hollywood Reporter) - The 2011 instellment of Mobile World Congress, which gathered 60,000 professionals from 200 countries, served as the official coming-out party for the next generation of Google Android smartphones and tablets.  

The Android booth featured a huge arcade section where developers from around the world showcased the next generation of mobile games. While graphics and gameplay have improved in the mobile space over the years, the new wave of smartphones and tablets will push the capabilities of these devices to the level of PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 -- and beyond even the best iPhone 4 and iPad games that are currently on the market.

BARCELONA, Spain -- Video games will be a key driver for the next generation of smartphones and tablets, as all of the major electronics companies, carriers and technology companies showcased games throughout Mobile World Congress. But while games are good news for companies like Google, whose Android platform had a huge show, and NVIDIA, which showed off Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 technology (code-named Kal-El) in Barcelona; the picture isn’t as bright for Sony Computer Entertainment. Just as Sony Ericsson’s Experia Play is bringing PlayStation games to its new Android phone, Sony’s sister company could suffer in the hardware sales department when Next Generation PlayStation System (NGP) launches this fall.

BARCELONA, Spain–Video games were all the rage at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, from Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play to Android apps to NVIDIA Tegra 2 and 3 technology. The convention concluded with the results of the 7th Annual International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) to celebrate the booming mobile games business. The five nominees in each of the six categories had been waiting since January 17th, when the nominations were announced, to find out who would be the ultimate winner.

BARCELONA, Spain – Over 60,000 visitors from 200 countries attended the 2011 GSMA Mobile World Congress, marking a record for the mobile industry’s premier event. The four-day conference and exhibition attracted executives from the world’s largest and most influential mobile operators, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies and media and entertainment organizations, as well as government delegations. Over 50 percent of this year’s Mobile World Congress attendees hold C-level positions, including more than 3,000 CEOs. Sony Ericsson used the event to debut Xperia Play, LG showcased the Optimus 3D phone, NVIDIA showcased Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 technology, and Google had a huge Android presence across smartphones and tablets.

BARCELONA -- Google (GOOG) and its Android operating system dominated Mobile World Congress being held this week in Barcelona as the search engine company's foray into the mobile world has quickly reached a crescendo. Google's fun green and white two story booth, complete with a smoothie juice bar and a circular slide where attendees could slide down in the middle of the booth and get their picture taken, represented a stark contrast to the more formal and stuffy business-like booths in this B2B-oriented, mobile industry show. The booth itself represented a departure from Google's normal trade show appearances, which have usually been much smaller and more utilitarian in design.

BARCELONA, Spain – While Sony PlayStation games like Crash Bandicoot were shown on the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Play phone at Mobile World Congress 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment’s ubiquitous PlayStation 2 passed a major milestone with over 150 million hardware units sold worldwide. This incredible milestone was reached in 10 years and 11 months since PlayStation 2's release in Japan in March 2000. In addition to its 3D gaming and Blu-ray 3D PlayStation 3, Sony has a new PlayStation Suite coming out for Android phones and the NGP (Next Generation PlayStation System) ready for fall. BARCELONA, Spain -- LG Electronics had one of the hottest gadgets on the floor of the annual Mobile World Congress. The LG Optimus 3D is the first smartphone coming to the U.S. that will utilize the same type of autostereoscopic 3D technology that gamers will see with the launch of Nintendo 3DS on March 27th. The new 3D phone will come packed with three glasses free 3D games from Gameloft, including Asphalt 6, Let’s Golf 2 and NOVA 2. BARCELONA, Spain – At Mobile World Congress 2011, EA Mobile was on hand at the Resaerch in Motion (RIM) booth to show off new games running on the upcoming Blackberry Playbook tablet device. When users turn on their new BlackBerry Playbook tablet for the first time, they had better be prepared for some fun and excitement with two iconic games from Electronic Arts preloaded and available for hours of entertaining gameplay - Need for Speed  Undercover,  the high-octane action game, and Tetris, one of the world’s most popular video games of all time. Both games will be available in HD and feature 3D visuals.

BARCELONA, Spain – Gamers waiting for the PlayStation Phone will be able to jump into games like The Sims 3, Guitar Hero and a multiplayer-exclusive FIFA 10 this March when Verizon Wireless launches the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Sony Ericsson unveiled the new device and a full line-up of games to celebrate the start of Mobile World Congress 2011. There will be 50 games available at launch, including 10 from Gameloft. Sony did not disclose the pricing on hardware or games at the press conference.

BARCELONA, Spain -- Peter Farago, vice president of marketing at research firm Flurry, recently released information that shows that not only is buzz building for the new Microsoft and Nokia partnership, but thousands of games and apps are going into development for Windows Phone 7. The analytics company found that there was a 66% increase in the number of games and apps started this week, compared to last week. The only difference is the confirmation of Nokiasoft, which was announced just before Mobile World Congress 2011 kicked off.
